Ok enough. We’ve had previous concerns and discussions before the last few times you pulled this nonsense in the past, but you’ve made it abundantly clear that your users are just numbers and dollar signs to you in unethical ways and I just don’t want to be apart of that anymore.
I realize and understand that this is a shame and I would like to state that I am disappointed. A lot of my friends and clients still seem to believe in you, support you, or just feel like they can’t get rid of you, but I’m not gonna be one of those people. In fact, I’m going to put my foot down and say “No!” Right off the bat in hopes of convincing a few of my acquaintances to see from my point of view and understand why I’m not putting up with your shenanigans anymore.
I would also like to state that it’s unfortunate because you are now a shell of what you once were. I feel like we are now light years removed from that argument, so I won’t harp on that further, but I need to mention that specific to further back my main point. You’re just not worth my time anymore.
The ads are getting out of control. No, let me reiterate, they are out of control and have been out of control. Just like a drug addict that’s been slowly getting into heavier and heavier drugs, there’s a point where you’re going to go too far and either kill yourself from an overdose or destroy the lives of those around you until no one wants any part of you anymore. You are doing the latter from what I’ve witnessed over the years. That drug for you is ad revenue, and you’re trying to stick it into any little crevice and crack you can find. You’re starting to look like a crack addict who’s searching through the carpet fibers for and little piece of crack they may have missed.
It all started with the pages. Before the pages, ads were implemented just like any other website. Not too intrusive, but they were there and we all understood why they were there. Once pages became a thing, then you started getting creative by adding promoted posts. Ok, I’m not completely on board with this whole “pay to have us shill your views for you” feature, but I can at least see the benefits of this from a small business standpoint. You’re given the option to advertise a little bit if you want to. Unfortunately, then you made it so your posts won’t be seen hardly at all unless you’re sponsoring them and that’s where it all started to spiral out of control into an unethical greed machine. Don’t even get me started on selling our personal data.
Nowadays, you’re starting to realize people are starting to use your website platform a lot less, but people still use the messenger app (that you have to install separately). People are doing this because they’re tired of the site being bogged down with algorithms that just plain waste our time and shove ads in our face every 10 seconds. We’ve had that already, it was cable television, and that’s getting slowly murdered by the internet. Now you’re last resort is to pump ads into the messages I’m checking here and there from people I don’t talk to regularly enough to have my phone number. What exactly are you trying to achieve here? Do you think I am really going to view your ads in a positive manor, let alone actually buy anything from those companies that are ok with this?
The answer is no. I’m done having ads shoved in my face. I’m done scrolling through useless echo chambers. I’m done being a victim of Facebook’s corporate social experiments. I’m done giving you my hard earned money and time I will never get back.
Sincerely,
-squares
Ps. Thank you steemit for allowing me the platform to not have to post this on Facebook.
