The beginning of every day starts at 5:30 in the morning standing there in the park surrounded by homeless sleeping next to the wall or crawled up under the bushes. It's quiet except for the birds waking to announce the soon to rise warming rays of the sun. Mornings are the bestest here in Corpus Christi. Very few are awake and many times I catch myself wondering if everyone has left due to an evacuation order or perhaps taken away by an alien invasion.
Soon the B Bus arrives and I'm off across town to the transfer station so I can catch another red and blue chariot out to North Padre Island to sit at the restaurant, have breakfast and wait on my friend/boss to take me to wherever our office is going to be that day. Some days I'll opt to stop at the store and grab a couple of tacos and walk the quarter mile down the street and sit on the sea wall and watch the dawn break over the Gulf of Mexico and get laughed at by the sea gulls. Soon spring will be sprung and that will be my default position for the wait on the ride to the jobsite. If I'm lucky we might get the opportunity to actually build right there in on the beach or close enough I can hear the roar of the waves all day to keep my mind caught in a fairy tale dream state as I go about my activities of daily living.
Lunch time arrives and I've always got this feeling somebody is watching me like my friend above. There's always a gray herring hanging around or a brown pelican somewhere looking for a handout, not to mention the stupid rats with wings laughing at you hoping to steal your sandwich right from your hand, then fly around parading it in front of you while his friends chase after him trying to steal the catch from his mouth in flight.
After lunch my days are mostly finished or focused on finishing up to A point where I'll be at a good starting point for the next day. My boss usually gives me a ride home as he has to take his brother home that lives on the same side of town. I'm truly blessed to be able to do the work I do. Sure it makes my bones hurt but it helps keep my girlish figure too. (wink) I'm also truly blessed to share an idea of what a day in my life is like. It all starts with The B.
