I was asked to shoot a Bed & Breakfast and of course I said yes. This B&B has a history and a wonderful reputation. This was one to look forward to.

Client wanted everything shot as they had just spent a while updating and re-vamping and painting and the whole hog. So I arrived early and got to work. I had done a reccie the day before and spent the evening doing a bit of research, by hunting the internet for similar architecture to get any hints tips and advise I could muster. The client also wanted to use images for the website and this is where things started to fall into place for me.

This was a big establishment and alot of the rooms were expansive - big and spacious. I had spent the previous few years shooting alot of panoramas and by my own admission I love seeing a series of useless single images put together to create a much bigger holistic image. The risk of stitching images together and it NOT working. Well lets just say it happened, more than I would like, but not to often.

I decided to shoot this B&B with the camera in the portraight position and in series from left to right - then in post - stitch the pictures together to create panoramas. This would also allow large area images for the web site and I wanted to try and express the size and spaciousness of the rooms inside the B&B.

For example, above is the full panorama of the dinning room.

And this image above is how it was used on the website. These long thin banner shaped images were lovely for sliders and page headers.

The kitchen proceeded a preparation room and both of them were huge. I was able to shoot them from a couple of angles. That is not something that happens often at all. Now I mentioned earlier that this B&B had history.
My father used to travel to this little town and eventually he moved there, and this would be around the turn of the century, so 26 odd years ago.
My father was what he called a 'commercial artist'. His visits and relocation involved staying here at this B&B. He never had money so used to barter time staying there for his water-colour paintings. The owners didn't stay on-site and I never saw any of my fathers paintings hanging at the B&B.

Now I never knew any of this while my dad was alive - I only found any of this info out after my dad passed in 2017. This new info caused me to drop by for any reason. It seemed that I was onto a new source of information. It may not have been my fathers proudest hour, but it was a little bit history news.

I have to say that I have never seen a preparation room before, but I was impressed and apparently when the B&B is busy this room is abuz with life and laughter. Knowing the folks here I really can imagine it.



Turns out I love shooting bathrooms. He He. Say that sentence out loud.
This shot directly above was really tricky. Made up of nearly 20 portraight images, stitched very carefully together. I remember this shoot and the subsequent week of post image editing very fondly and proudly, but would still like to learn new tricks and techniques. So please send your thoughts thru.
