The week from August 11 to August 18, 2025 brought Bitcoin back to reality after last week’s explosive rally. BTC started the week strong, riding the momentum from the bullish 401(k) investment news and pushing as high as $124K on August 14. But what looked like the beginning of a parabolic run quickly turned into a sharp correction. By the weekend, the price had fallen below $116K, erasing much of the week’s earlier gains.
This pullback isn’t entirely unexpected. After several weeks of steady growth, profit-taking was bound to hit, and many short-term traders seem to have cashed in. At the same time, concerns over overheated markets and whispers of regulatory pushback tempered some of the optimism. Still, long-term sentiment remains strong — the 401(k) approval is a structural shift that won’t vanish with one red week.
The chart shows a clear double-top pattern before a steep drop, suggesting volatility is here to stay. Traders are now debating: is this just a healthy correction before another leg up, or the start of a deeper retracement?
