Hello to all of you! Happy New Year. I want to start this year by sharing with you my best reads from last year, also a bit of reading stats and my reading commitments for this year.

To start off, I want to share that my 2024 reading challenge was 30 books, which I reached by the skin of my teeth. I finished reading on the same December 31 night. I could have read earlier, but I love to leave everything to the last minute so I can feel the adrenaline rush. Ha ha ha ha. From these 30 books, I picked my top 5, these were not necessarily 5 stars, but they did fill my heart and brighten my life.

Screenshot_2025-01-02-02-19-34-30-429_com.goodreads.png

It was quite simple to choose the 5 books that I liked the most. Because although I read quite a lot, not all the books were good, and some, even, filled me with tedium. At times, I thought I had no desire or motivation to read because I found it hard to keep reading, or to continue the books. But I realized many things. Before I explain all this, here is my Top 5.

1. Mistborn: The Final Empire

I had read Brandon Sanderson before, but this trilogy had been recommended to me, and I was assured that I was going to like it. But I had a lot of books and sagas to finish. And as I went from one book to the next, there was Mistborn waiting for me. I hadn't wanted to commit because I already have a very long unfinished High Fantasy saga, and I didn't want these to end up boring me, or for me to put the previous one aside. But curiosity got the better of me, and so the first Mistborn book enchanted me from start to finish. I was deeply impacted by this read and rediscovered why I love this type of fantasy so much. And it wasn't a matter of devouring page after page, it was more a matter of enjoying this complete magical world.

2. A Shadow in the Ember

The story that made me want to devour page after page without wanting to come unstuck at any moment. I loved its main characters, Sera is a strong female protagonist, that one we always ask for. Nyktos is everything, I met him this year and I doubt I'll be replacing him with anyone else. It's the prequel to Of Blood and Ashes, and it's a companion read, meaning it should be read alongside the main saga. But it is so well written and developed, that this story alone is already wonderful. I read it in November, and I understood that there are books that are simply written for me and others that are not, that it doesn't matter the genre, or the author's way of writing. But that when a story grabs you, no matter how, you will never let go.

3. Book Lovers

By Emily Henry

The author I met in December and was pleasantly surprised. This book reinforced the way I look at life. The most interesting thing is that this romantic comedy based on book lovers who discover each other during a summer, is a love story and at the end it leaves you with a good message. A hopeful one and a desire to eat the world in the way that most resembles your dreams. We never know what a good book can teach us, many times we are not even looking for it. It was the book with which I cried the most. I fell in love with this read, and it is certain that this year I will read more books by the author. Fortunately, she has a few published, so I can be happy for a while.

4. Fourth Wing

By Rebecca Yarros

The sensation of 2023 was my first read of the year. I slept through reading this book. And I loved page after page. I understood right away why it was driving everyone crazy, and I think the hype it has is pretty measured because it's a story that grabs from the start. My interest? It's not just that this book is a Dark Academy and Enemies to lovers. It's that it has dragons, and if it has dragons it's for me. They are my favorite mythical animals and an assurance that I'm going to read them if something is about dragons. I loved the plot, I loved the characters, the world. EVERYTHING. Couldn't miss being on this list. Fantasy of the good kind. The characters are powerful. It has challenges, action and very good chemistry between the main characters.

5. The Wheel of Time: The Shadow Rising

By Robert Jordan

Although I loved this book, I couldn't continue with the saga. And it's not that it's a bad saga, it's amazing, but it's very challenging to read because of so many points of view. However, this was the book that made me understand why it is in the top fantasy sagas of all time. The structure, the world building, the different magical systems intertwined, make it a real madness to read these books and I understand them all. I definitely need to continue this saga this year, if or if. I want to know what else is intertwined in each thread of this fantastic story. It had to be in this count.

Reading what you love, and discovering that you love, is what will get you out of reader's block for sure. That's how it happened to me. Not reading because it's what others like, or it's the bestseller or the Nobel Prize of the year (which I hated). Therein lies the secret. This is why I want to highlight some reading.

  • Honorable Mention: The House Of Cerulean Sea. It almost made it into the top.
  • Most enjoyable: The House Of Cerulean Sea. It has a dark humor that got a few laughs out of me.
  • The one that made me fall into reader's block: A Court Of Mist And Fury. It annoyed me every time I finished a chapter, I felt it boring and tiresome.
  • The one that got me out of reader's block: Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone. Nothing like visiting old friends and getting back to that safe place. It gave me the strength to finish the previous book.
  • Saga I read complete: The Bridgertons. Quick, convenient, fun, and completely forgettable books. Perfect for bulking up your library and reading between strong sagas.

Now I want to share with you some facts and statistics of what I read this 2024.

My highest score: There are 12 books in these charts. I chose the ones with the highest scores. I didn't put Harry Potter because it was a reread, and A Light in the Flame was a second book in a saga, so I wanted to better opt for the next one that I loved. They are grouped in order of reading. Also, some other things I didn't add was that the genre I read most was fantasy and then romance. The authors I read the most were Julia Quinn (6 books), Ali Hazelwood (3 books) and Jennifer L. Armentrout (3 books).

My average rating was 3.9 stars. There were a couple of books that I didn't like very much, and those were the ones that scored the worst. There were a couple of months when I didn't read anything, in February I was on reader's block (and Hive classes from Zero) and in August, it was the biggest reader's block, because I wasn't enjoying reading. Also, things happened in my country that took me out of comfort, plus I traveled. But in October I came back. The best month was November when I read 6 books.

2025

For this year 2025 my reading challenge is 50 books. To achieve it, my method will be the one I used the last months of last year, not forcing myself to read. Read 1 book a week with calm and enjoyment. I can do it because I have time to do it. If I get to read more, it's on my own, because I'm hooked, and because I really enjoy doing it.

Screenshot_2025-01-02-13-03-35-088_com.goodreads.png

This challenge will not be just reading for the sake of reading, it's simple, I'm already in the habit of reading a book a week. Now what I want to do is to put a bit of challenge in it. And what I share with you below are my Reading resolutions for 2025:

  • 2 classics
  • 2 self-help books
  • 2 rereads

Finish the sagas:

  • Of Blood and Ashes
  • ACOTAR
  • Mistborn
  • Caraval
  • The Wheel of Time (there are 14 of them, understand me 馃榿)
  • Powerless Rueda del Tiempo (son 14, entiendan
  • Powerless

As for books, one of the best things I'm taking away from 2024 is rediscovering myself in reading and embracing the genres that are most like me. It never hurts to discover a new genre to see if you like it. I don't know yet if I read anything new this year, but if I do, I will certainly share it with you for the 2025 recap.

I wanted to put my Blockchain challenges on the record before I share it elsewhere. I love that on Hive I have gained a foothold in a community that I started as a moderator a long time ago, but at this point I feel more at home than when I started. It's great to share tastes with other people, and the best thing is that I already have reference of many of the readings that others do, even if I haven't read it yet. A hug to everyone, and I hope you have a 2025 full of many books.

Espa帽ol

隆Hola a todos! Feliz a帽o nuevo.

Y am茅 p谩gina tras p谩gina. 驴Mi inter茅s?

image.png

5. The Wheel of Time: The Shadow Rising

As铆 me pas贸 a m铆. No leer porque es lo que les gusta a los dem谩s, o es el best seller o el Premio Nobel del a帽o (que odi茅). Ah铆 est谩 el secreto.

  • Menci贸n honor铆fica: The House Of Cerulean Sea.
  • M谩s divertido: The House Of Cerulean Sea.
  • Saga que le铆 completa: The Bridgertons. Libros r谩pidos, c贸modos, divertidos y completamente olvidables.

Screenshot_2025-01-02-19-15-19-562_net.tonysoft.bookmory.pngScreenshot_2025-01-02-19-15-30-644_net.tonysoft.bookmory.png

Screenshot_2025-01-02-19-16-08-355_net.tonysoft.bookmory.pngScreenshot_2025-01-02-19-15-07-043_net.tonysoft.bookmory.png

2025

  • 2 cl谩sicos
  • 2 libros de autoayuda
  • 2 relecturas

Terminar las sagas:

  • De Sangre y Cenizas
  • ACOTAR
  • Mistborn
  • Caraval
  • La Rueda del Tiempo (son 14, enti茅ndanme 馃榿)
  • Powerless
