I hope you had a great week and that next week is one of achievement and progress. That life has no mercy on any of us, we must shake off our sorrows and get ahead.
I have been a bit disconnected, one of the cables that supplies electricity to my house came off the post and fell into the yard, I have been waiting for several days for the electricity company to send personnel to do the repair.
I made some repairs (which seem like medicine from the front in battle), and I have the service to work, but it is somewhat precarious; however, it will resist what is necessary.
One of my favorite jobs is restoring old electronics and equipment, in this case electric skillets and I admit I don't have gas service so despite buying an induction cooker a couple of skillets come in handy.
Before doing anything else, I checked the electrical resistances, which are the heart of the equipment. The replacement cost would make the repair unfeasible.
Simply, I measured that they still had continuity by placing the tester on the Ohms scale, (the scale for measuring diodes or continuity is also used) and that they did not short with the equipment chassis.
I have to point out a detail that always caught my attention in the Rena Ware frying pan, and that is that the resistance is inside a jacket that contains oil, this allows a more efficient distribution of heat.
I found a note about the system that details how it works.
It ensures that the heat will be uniform throughout its surface, up to 200 degrees Celsius (400 F).
At this point, we know that, fortunately, the problem is in the thermostats, and it is very visible. It is noted that there was excessive heat that damaged the bakelite from which the casings are made.
It is a very common failure in wall outlets, electrical switches, breakers, due to rust, or a terminal that is not firm or tight enough, thus excess heat begins to be generated, burning the cable and damaging where it is connected. making it more difficult for the electrical flow to pass through.
Disassemble and work the Rena Ware thermostat first, which was the one in better condition.
This terminal that I point out in the picture was covered in rust from years of use, which produced excess heat and damaged the section of wire it was connected to.
It looks better in the next image.
The terminal indicated in blue, was covered with oxide that produced the excess of heat that damaged the cable, indicate with a green arrow the support of the iron thermostat that was very deteriorated and in yellow indicate part of the connection of the circuit for the pilot that at this moment it did not exist, only the resistance remained.
Clean terminal thoroughly and apply rust converter to thermostat bracket.
I put it with the greatest care, space is quite scarce.
After several tries I was able to fit it correctly, in this type of work you have the problem that you avoid cable ties as much as possible, you want no cuts in the cable, so I removed the damaged section and put the cable back electrical resistance terminal.
We'll finish in the next post, it's already gotten longer than I wanted, I hope the power company will have the power properly connected to the house by then.
This is how the thermostat turned out, I don't have a way to replace the damaged bakelite section, I hope to find a solution for the next publication.
Thank you very much for stopping by and reading me, you are appreciated for it.
I have used the Google translator for the English language, the images have the reference of the site where I find them, the rest are from my workshop.
I hope you rested well this weekend and that the next one is better. Much encouragement to all.
