Today is the last day of Carnival, and I saw many people in costume, especially some people from my small town of Carúpano wearing outfits that left little to the imagination. Then I got home and wrote this poem, which I have titled:

Carnival Tuesday

Unmask my insecurities
Tear away my good girl disguise
Bite me like Eve the forbidden fruit
Forget your promises to God
Let yourself be led through the labyrinths of sin
It's Carnival Tuesday
The last day to let loose
to unleash passions
to become intoxicated by unknown bodies
Tomorrow is another day
tomorrow I'll go to church
Tomorrow I'll ask forgiveness for my sins
They'll place a cross of ashes on my forehead
And I'll be myself again,
the woman with the bitter face,
the one who questions the vulgar world,
the one who prays the Lord's Prayer
and crosses herself at the thought of sinning.
