This homework is particularly difficult for me to do as I am still young. I am involved with various trends that pop up. I bought a drone, sports watches, VR goggles and a hoverboard. I am pretty much in tune with trends. I had to put myself in the shoes of those who are struggling to keep up at my workplace. I couldn't do that so I had to go with my observations and experiences. I hope I kept to the homework objective with this post.
The education environment has changed quite a bit but there are many teachers who are struggling to keep up with the changes. Most teachers simply refuse to change because of they're age. We are living in a technological and internet age, two things that some elderly teachers just can't or don't want to grasp.
I can imagine such teachers struggling to keep up with trends that learners are often up to date with. Just simple toys that learners come to school with or buy during break time is a new mystery to these kinds of teachers. They own smartphones that they can't really use and need assistance from us young teachers. I actually admire the ones with smartphones because that shows their eagerness to learn and adapt to the changing environment. I try by all means to teach them everything they need to know about their phones.
There are those who just don't see reason. What annoys me the most is when their unwillingness to learn directly affects me. During times of online submissions, typing of question papers and notes of meetings, printing out recording sheets and capturing them in a computer program called SAMS. Each of these activities require each teacher's input. When some of us are done with these tasks, these other teachers ask for our help, meaning we now do their jobs. When trying to teach them they'll respond by saying "this is too difficult for me. It needs you young teachers to do it". At this time I feel a blood clot in my brain, but I do calm myself down soon after.
I haven't personally experienced a trend my learners are following as I am following similar trends. My elder co-workers, I would imagine have. It's important to keep up with the latest developments in technology and in trends that relate to our profession. One is never too late to learn.
