This tree has been around for about ten years now, and most of its life I have had to intervene and deal with a crown problem. More specifically an insect attacking the crown of the tree. These bugs are known as a Peachtree borer. Little worms will eat their way through the base of the tree where the trunk and roots meet. This opens wounds on the tree and can risk diseases or infection. Luckily this is not the first time I have come across these bugs.

Using an old tee shirt, it served me well for over fifteen years. Now its going to help protect my tree from these critters. I cut it up and apply a substance called "tanglefoot". It is a natural pesticide that is very sticky. By covering the cut up tee shirt in it and then wrapping it around the exposed crown of the tree I can stop the borers from doing more damage. One ones inside will still be there until they form into moths and try to fly away, when then they will get stuck on the tanglefoot substance.

As I am applying it the rain starts and I must rush to finish the job. I get it all done before it starts pouring but I did get a little wet. Later on ill cover up the tee shirt in mulch so its not exposed. And we shall see if this stops the borers. Last I checked I did not see any fresh holes so I think it worked. I made this video a few months back and the Peach tree is very happy at the moment.

As my Cherry trees grow I will probably need to do the same as these borers affect them too. But glad I have handled this issue now a few times and I think I will be ready to deal with them if they show up on other fruit trees. Seems having fruit trees require extra defense from insects. I have not had to do this with non fruiting trees so seems its something I may have to deal alot more with in the future as my fruit tree count increases.
