This week I decided to feature posts from two communities I have seen alot of growth in. These groups got some delegation from me and while checking out the community I found some great posts I wanted to feature. The two communities I am talking about are melinda010100@melinda010100's Feathered Friends and adalger@adalger's Densifying Nature-Appreciation (DNA). These two groups focus on wildlife and cataloging peoples experiences with them. The later group (DNA) has a Species hunt program where they are encouraging people to look around where they live and post about different species.

Here are five minnows I found in the communities showing off the wildlife around them, being insects, plants or birds. These users are posting only on Hive, so please show them some love for picking to use our blockchain:

Ootheca (a fascinating side of insects that is rarely shown) by keuudeip@keuudeip

@keuudeip/ootheca-a-fascinating-side-of-insects-that-is-rarely-shown

In this post we look at how some insects reproduce, similar to cocoons some insects will attach an egg sack to plants with their offspring inside. We see some of these "Oothecas" that they captured while exploring. I need to be on the lookout for these when I am walking around in the forest.

Amazing Nature Contest - February 2021 - #02 by naty16@naty16

@naty16/amazing-nature-contest-february-2021-02

We get to see how cacti reproduce in this post, a prickly pear cactus is the subject of the post and its flowering. If it gets pollinated those flower stalks will turn into fruit called "tunas". I have grown prickly pear and had them fruit, eating them has a flavor something between a watermelon and strawberry. Its important to remove the spines before consuming and be ready for many seeds. Great capture of a very happy looking cacti there.

Common buzzard vs Hooded crow by oks2crypto@oks2crypto

@oks2crypto/common-buzzard-vs-hooded-crow

A conflict between two birds is observed in this post, a common buzzard and hooded crow have some drama they are dealing with. The buzzard found a perch on some power lines it liked but the crow was having none of that. Some pictures were captured as this avian disagreement occurred.

European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris) by pinkdragonfly@pinkdragonfly

@pinkdragonfly/european-starling-sturnus-vulgaris

We see an invasive species in this post, a kind of bird that tends to cause other birds to leave the area. We have problems with this bird as well where I live so I feel their pain. The Starlings will chase away other birds and be troublesome to the environment around them. Some great pictures were captured of this troublemaker and was interesting to observe their behavior.

Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 6 - My Entry by gurseerat@gurseerat

@gurseerat/feathered-friends-show-me-a-2bd899fa310f4

In this feathered friends post we see an unusual sight in an airport terminal, there were some Pigeons walking around. Not sure how they got in there, and honestly I have never seen any birds in airports ive visited besides the large jet powered ones outside on the tarmac.

Thats my five picks for this week, come back next week to see Solo's next weekly picks. I curate posts every Tuesday and do this through MSP. Thanks so much to the Minnow Support Group for giving me the opportunity to serve as a curator!
