It has been a few weeks since I planted these seeds, and now they have sprouted and are growing upwards. Though due to them being by a window, they are growing quite lopsided. I have tried rotating them but its causing them to grow a little funny. So I needed a light source directly over head so they will grow properly.
See above how they are growing to one side, and when I try to rotate they just get kind of crooked. Maybe once they get bigger I can have them by the windows but for seeds I think they need a more direct light.
Good to see all of the seeds coming up, but its important to have proper growth or they may break off to one side before they grow strong.
I really like these trays and domes I bought, its made growing seeds very easy. No need to add water every day, I can do that once a week or so.
Using some fluorescent tubes I had on hand. I started seeds with them in the past and they work great.
I added hook-eyes to them so I can hang them up with small chains. Allows me to adjust the height easily.
Wired them together and they seem to work fine that way. I added plugs at the end so I can just have them going into a power strip. And a timer is installed to them them light most of the day with about 8 hours of no light so the plants can rest.
Adding my chains that will hold up the lights. Its not as important right now to adjust the height, but as the plants get big this winter I may need to adjust the height once in awhile.
Using s-hooks I attach them to the hook-eyes and the chain holds it all well. Got to be careful not to bump them as they can drop easily and those tubes will break making a big mess.
Running out of chain I just tied two of the lights together using some paracord.
I will raise them and attach them to a single chain, making all I need is three chains for two lights. I may redo this setup with four chains when I need to adjust the lights separately, but for now I can do just one height and its all fine.
With two other lights I put them up on the first shelf. Then the second bottom shelf gets the lights I tied together.
Turning them all on they fired on without an issue, they have not been used in a few years so just a little dusty but still work great.
I have a bunch of tubes still, but when they all burn out I will probably invest in some led lights. At the time I bought these they were not that common but now a days its the way to go.
Hopefully with these lights my seeds with grow more straight up. Next is to wait for the little seedlings to form its main leaves. Right now they have only formed their cotyledons, meaning the leaves that first form with the seeds. Next the plant will form normal plant leaves and that is when its time to transplant.
