We had spent the morning at the Martial Glacier, taking a short hike through the snow, and when we returned to the city at noon, I wanted more. At the hotel I was recommended to go see the penguins, and I loved the suggestion! My mom was a bit tired and preferred not to go, and well, I went to the Ushuaia tourist pier to see the options and bought a ticket for a tour that left at about three or four in the afternoon, if I remember correctly.
The catamaran in which we left was called Elisabetta, slowly began to sail through the Beagle Channel, and a while later we came across the famous lighthouse Les Eclaireurs (The Explorers), which since the end of 1920 guides those who pass through these waters of the Argentine Patagonia.
Before reaching our destination, La Ping眉inera (Penguin Colony), we made several stops next to islands that were appearing in front of us, there was a lot of wildlife, especially birds such as cormorants, and also sea lions, a good opportunity to observe and take pictures.
It was quite cold here, so many people sat inside with the heating. I braved the cold and went out on the deck of the catamaran, it's not every day you have the opportunity to see the animals in their habitat and these incredible landscapes of the province of Tierra del Fuego.
We passed the lighthouse again, this time more closely, and then sailed to Martillo Island, home of the penguins, which is about 15 km from Ushuaia.
The guide of the excursion suddenly told us that we were arriving at the island, so everyone went out to the deck to see the protagonists of this tour. It is forbidden to go down, so the catamaran gets as close as possible to the shore and from there we watch these cute animals.
Who can resist the grace of penguins? The way they walk, the way they flap their flippers, it's so funny! They are simply charming
Son sencillamente encantadores 鉂わ笍.
In Ushuaia, one of the best places in the world to see these seabirds in their natural habitat, there are about three different types of penguins. The most abundant are those of the Magellanic species, which inhabit both the coasts of Argentina and Chile.

Also known as Patagonian penguins, they are medium-sized, about 70 cm tall and weigh about 4 kg.
We were told that sometimes King and Gentoo penguins could also be seen.
Since it was October when I went, breeding season for them, which is between September and March, we were able to see many penguins on Martillo Island, the place they have chosen to mate. Penguins are migratory animals and that is why they are not there all year round.
We spent about an hour observing these incredible beings, the sun was about to set.
The return to Ushuaia seemed quick to me because we didn't stop any more, meanwhile, the Beagle Channel kept giving us fabulous views.
By the time we reached the port it was getting dark and the sky had clouded over.
I walked back to the hotel, super happy to have visited La Ping眉inera, when I told my mom and she saw the pictures, she regretted not coming with me 馃槀. But well, the next day was our last day in Ushuaia and we already had another excursion planned, which I will show you in the next post. See you!
隆Nos vemos!
