Continuing my visit along Paseo Colón in the beautiful city of Puerto la Cruz, I’d like to share my tour of the recently renovated "ecological pier." According to a local resident, its construction utilized recycled plastic lumber—made from repurposed containers—to reduce waste and create the structure. From here, trips depart on traditional peñeros (small fishing boats) and motorboats to islands within Mochima National Park, such as El Faro, El Saco, and Puinare. As I mentioned in a previous post, Mochima is one of Venezuela's largest natural parks, shared between the states of Sucre and Anzoátegui; it encompasses beautiful beaches like Colorada, Santa Cruz, Las Maritas, and Mochima itself. Paseo Colón offers the chance to visit three of these islands via the boats departing from this pier.
We had planned to visit El Faro Island, but by the time we arrived, the boat had already left. Visiting hours run from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., when the boat returns to pick up visitors—providing ample time to explore these beautiful islands. Park rangers are on hand to provide instructions on conservation and guide visitors to the accessible areas. We waited to see if another trip would depart, but it didn't happen; so, we plan to visit these islands on a future trip to the city, making sure to arrive at the pier as early as possible.
Continuando mi visita por el paseo Colón en la hermosa ciudad de Puerto la Cruz, les comparto mi recorrido por el muelle ecológico que fue renovado recientemente y según la información de un residente, en su construcción se utilizó madera plástica para reciclar varios envases, reducir la basura y crear esta estructura desde la cual se realizan viajes en peñeros y y lancha hacia las slas del parque Mochima como El Faro, El Saco y Puinare, el parque Mochima como lo señalé en una publicación, es uno de los parques naturales más grandes de Venezuela y lo comparten el estado Sucre y Anzoátegui, en él se ubican hermosas playas como; Colorada, Santa Cruz, Las Maritas, Mochima entre otras, que integran el mencionado parque; desde el paseo Colón tienes la oportunidad de conocer tres Islas en botes y lanchas que salen desde este muelle.
Nuestro plan era hacer una visita a la isla El Faro, pero cuando llegamos ya el bote había salido, los horarios de visita inician a las 9 de la mañana y hasta las dos pm, cuando el bote regresa a buscar a los visitantes, son varias horas y tiempo suficiente para conocer y explorar estas hermosas islas, donde los guardaparques están atentos dando las instrucciones para su cuidado y los espacios que se pueden visitar, estuvimos esperando si salía otro viaje, pero no se dio, así que en una siguiente visita a la ciudad planeamos poder conocer estas islas y estar lo más temprano posible en el muelle .
The pier is located along the promenade area; behind it lies a walkway with white posts, and at the entrance stands an identification sign welcoming visitors to Mochima Park, which lists activities prohibited during island visits. There is also a heart-shaped swing—perfect for taking lovely photos with the beautiful sea in the background—as well as a small pier or jetty featuring a white-and-green lighthouse.
The walkway extends from the booths on the boulevard wall to the pier; the initial approach is made of concrete, while the pier itself is constructed from the familiar "plastic" or eco-friendly wood. As one moves along the pier, the usage rules are visible: children must be accompanied by adults, fishing is prohibited during afternoon hours, and leaning on the railings is not allowed. Importantly, the area is equipped with surveillance cameras for visitor safety. Corpotur is the agency responsible for promoting tourism in the Sotillo municipality, home to Puerto La Cruz. The next photograph shows the pier and the path leading to the boats, flanked by white railings, lamps, and small posts connected by white ropes; an informational sign from Corpotur is also visible. A closer look at the pier reveals a spacious entry platform followed by a walkway leading to the boat area; adjacent to this lies a larger pier where various yachts and boats of different sizes are moored.
El muelle se encuentra, en la parte del paseo, posterior tiene una caminería, postes de color blanco y en la entrada la valla de identificaciónque da la bienvenida al Parque Mochima, donde se señalan las actividades que no se pueden realizar cuando visitas las islas, también hay un columpio en forma de corazón ideal para hacer lindas fotos con el hermoso mar de fondo, además un pequeño muelle o embarcadero con un faro de color blanco y verde.
La caminería se extiende desde las casetas en el muro del bulevar hasta el muelle, el pasillo que conduce hasta el muelle, es de concreto, al llegar hasta él, el material es la conocida madera plástica o ecológica, al avanzar por la caminería del muelle observamos los reglamentos para su uso; los niños deben ir acompañados por adultos, prohibido prohibido pescar en el horario de la tarde, apoyarse en las barandas y un punto muy importante la zona cuenta con cámaras de vigilancia y seguridad para los visitantes, Corpotur es la encargada de promover las actividades turísticas en el municipio Sotillo, donde se encuentra ubicada Puerto la Cruz, en la siguiente fotografía vemos el muelle y el camino que conduce hacia los botes, a los lados las barandas, que son de color blanco, las lámparas y pequeños postes con mecates blancos, también hay una valla informativa que corresponde a Corpotur, observando en detalle el muelle hay una plataforma amplia para ingresar y luego un pasillo que conduce hacia el área de los botes; al lado se ubica un muelle más grande donde reposan varios yates y barcos de diferentes tamaños.
Here is a beautiful view featuring the lighthouse, the lovely sea, and a bird in flight—which, incidentally, flew very close to us. During this trip, we had the chance to see several birds flying nearby and took the opportunity to snap some photos. My son and I took a short walk along the pier and chatted with the men who work on the boats; they explained that on weekends, there are more frequent departures to the islands at various times, making it the perfect opportunity to visit them. Although we didn't make it to the island itself, it was a wonderful experience to explore this part of the waterfront—an area we had never seen before—and to admire the pier's structure and the beautiful sea views, which, beyond the incredible scenery, included the sight of various boats moored alongside the pier.
A continuación tenemos una hermosa vista del faro, el hermoso mar y un ave volando que por cierto, pasó muy cerca de nosotros, en este viaje tuvimos la oportunidad de ver varias aves volar alrededor de nosotros y aprovechamos para tomarle algunas fotografías, en compañía de mi hijo hicimos una pequeña caminata por el muelle, conversamos con los señores que trabajan en los botes y nos explicaron que los fines de semana se incrementan las salidas para las islas con varios horarios y es la oportunidad perfecta para visitarlas, aunque no pudimos conocer la isla fue una linda experiencia visitar esta zona del paseo que nunca habíamos visto, conocer el muelle su estructura y contemplar las hermosas vistas del mar, donde además del increíble paisaje se aprecian varios botes en el lateral del muelle.
