I'm from Balkan, Croatia. We had this horrible war 25-27 years ago, but who counts!? ;)
One day I was coming back from Cambridge, England and next day I was faced with a slaughterhouse in my neighborhood. As this wasn't shocking enough, there are many other "small" things hiding behind the word war.
My late ex-husband was a soldier. Captain.
We were living in the building called "mamutica" -mammoth if mammoth was a girl/female ;)
This was/is really big building. There are at least 4-5 000 ppl living in this building. It has 18 stories.
We were living on the top floor. 18th floor.
One night, in the middle of the night, my husband woke up, at least I thought he woke up but he was dreaming and he kind of winked at me and said: "Come on, let's go!" than turned his back to me and went back to sleep.
Funny? Sure, but it's also very scary.
I was only 21. Just came out parents home.
Next time, a few months later a similar thing happened. He woke up, even stood up and said: "Its fire, fire! We need to go! Quick!" I was terrified. I had a little baby boy. I was thinking what to grab 1st to take with me, for the baby. In this few seconds, I didn't know if there is fire or not. After 10 sec or so, I saw our window shades are up and you could see street lights in the park underneath our window, our building..
There was no fire and we went back to sleep.
There was no fire! It was street/public lights.
Now sounds funny even to me but then it sure wasn't.
Two of us, on one small gathering. A rare, old photo I cherish so much.
