My friend with whom I share a house with, is growing pineapples in pots. We have 6 of them. Someone told us once that it can't be done, as the area where we live in, isn't hot and humid enough. Well, we proved him wrong! We were very excited when the first pineapple started growing. We've never seen anything like this, as we buy our pineapples ripe and ready to eat from the greengrocers.
They start off in a pink color, and at this stage they look a lot like a protea, which is our national flower.
What is even more amazing, is that the coalesced berries produce these beautiful purple little flowers. The crown on top of the pineapple is starting to form.
They are slowly but surely growing into beauties, fit for a king's table.
Last, but not least, an even greater surprise: little babies. You can see 3 babies just underneath the big pineapple. And the tiny crowns are already visible too!
Soon they'll be ready to eat. I don't really eat pineapples, as they hurt my mouth and tongue, but I'm definitely going to have a piece of our first one, as I'm sure it's going to be the sweetest and juiciest pineapple ever.
Enjoy your Christmas Eve, and take care.
