Michaela DePrince. When I saw this book, I knew it was something I would like to read:

Boy, was I in for a surprise. Together with Daniel Pearl's wife Mariane (a story about them later), and Immaculee Ilibagiza (who survived the Rwandan Genocide, more about her later too), Michaela is, in my humble opinion, one of the strongest woman gracing our planet Earth. Physically as well as mentally.

I look at this little girl, and wonder if I would have given her my time of day?

Perhaps I've always been a bit too cynical, too self-centered, and perhaps I've grown too used to the poverty and hunger around me, I don't know. I live in a comfortable house in a comfortable suburb, and drive an old but comfortable car. I have a comfortable bed to sleep in, enough clothes to wear, and enough to eat.

But I'm glad Michaela found a mom in Elaine DePrince, who was able to see this little girl's great future in her need and desire to dance. That Elaine was able to give this little girl HER time of day.

Michaela also had to make peace with her vitiligo, a skin condition that is very noticeable in her case, because of her beautiful ebony skin.

I can say no more. I don't want to say anything more. Just look.
