I made a friend at IKEA today and, it was at first sight. Very rarely do I have this kind of connection and can normally say hello and then part ways, not this day. I don't know his name yet but let me introduce you;
From the moment I held him, looked into his eyes and said hello, I knew. I looked up and Daddy and said,
"Daddy. I really like this one".
There was no whining because Daddy doesn't give into it, no tears, no pleading... Just a statement with all the earnestness I could muster.
He asked are you sure and I looked down into Pandas eyes, up into Daddy's and said:
"Yes Daddy, I am sure".
Now, I have Panda. I love him. I held him close all the way home as I think he is growing pretty fond of me too. We picked Mummy up from her school work tonight and I showed her the new family member and she understood too.
Sometimes you just know.
It was a good day today and finding a new friend made it even better. Daddy and I went to buy coat hangers and instead spent 2 hours trying every chair in IKEA. We aren't even going to buy a chair.
We also ate and I successfully drank soy milk out of a tetrapak. Yesterday on my first attempt, I squeezed a little too hard and it got a bit messy. Parents should learn. If they don't want you to do something like squeeze the container, don't say,
Don't squeeze the container,
It is not how curious kids understand the world, they are going to squeeze the container. Daddy is a daddy who should know this already.
Silly Daddy.
Also, awesome Daddy for recognising that love is love, it doesn't matter if you are black and white.
