Today was another first, I went shopping alone. Well, not alone as Daddy was with me, chose what we bought paid but, I pushed the trolley. This is part of my training, part of growing up, part of learning what I need to do to live a life of independence. Two things I learned today:

  • I need to watch where I am pushing the trolley rather than my feet.
  • Daddy eats too much sugary food.

I have written both down in my mental diary, the last one is for ammunition for a future argument I am likely to have when he says "No, Smallsteps, it is not good for you..." Hypocrite.

Daddy does a lot of work to support my independence. From the outside it looks like lazy parenting since he just sits on the couch most of the time watching me play but, I do think there is a method to his slothfulness. One thing I am not very comfortable with is talking to strangers but, I watch them very, very closely. Can't trust them I say now but, in time, I still won't trust them.

At the moment, I just keep an eye on them and see what they are up to. It is quite fascinating to watch how different people act and react. Today, there was a little girl on a bike. I learned that word last week at the shops when daddy showed them to me and said that next summer I can get one.

  • Next summer, daddy will buy me a bike.

^ Mental diary.

The little girl looked so happy on her little pink bike as her parents walked behind. I looked at the three of them but, only the little girl had a smile on her face. I hope that the parents smile for her a lot normally though because I think smiling parents tell something about the chances for the children.

Daddy makes me laugh though, so does Mummy. We have so many little jokes, so many little sayings that make us all smile together. Sometimes Daddy is working in the office/my bedroom and I am with mummy in the lounge and I run to Daddy shouting 'Daddy kiss!' and after giving him a kiss, back to Mummy shouting 'Mummy kiss' I can do this for 5 minutes easily. I think they enjoy all the kisses.

This is going to be the hardest thing perhaps when I move am independent. At some point, I am not going to have them right there to joke with and give me hugs and kisses. There won't be many meals at the table together and I will have to fend for myself. I will also have to pay for my own groceries.

For now, I am happy practicing for independence but, I hope it doesn't come too soon. I think Mummy and daddy hope it isn't too soon also.
