Don't worry this isn't a human reproductive post lol as it may seem by the title. I was just sitting here surfing around the net and other fun things and had a thought. It isn't a new thought as I have had it many times but more of a reflection I guess.
Most people know where they are from, their heritage, family trees that sort of thing. You know who you look like, either Mom, Dad, Both, or another family member that came before you. You know your customs and traditions, celebrations and stories of those before you.
I however know none of that. The reason for this is that I was put up for adoption when I was born. Don't feel bad for me, I see this as a gift from my birth mother. Many would view this as not being wanted by their birth mother, but I see it an a way that she loved me enough to want to provide the best possible opportunities for me.
I was six months old when I was adopted by the most caring and wonderful young couple that I could ever know. I couldn't have picked better parents if I did personal interviews of hundreds of couples. I mean these two people had hearts of gold. My Dad was a lineman, so he worked often and long hours. This meant I spent a lot of time with my Mom. And yes, in my eyes she is my Mom. She loved me, raised me and gave me her values. I was an only child for six years and then they adopted another baby girl. I now had a sister.
So, back to the where did I come from question I knew from a very young age that I was adopted. My parents told me and were honest and would answer any question I ever had. I was a smart kid so I grasped the idea quite easily. I never really gave much thought to it, until I got older. That is when I began to wonder who I looked like. In my twenties my friends were getting married and having children and the conversations almost always involved an "oh he looks just like his father, or mother" This is when I began wondering, who do I look like?
It really isn't a big deal, just a curiosity on my part but most people know this about themselves and I probably never will. I wouldn't mind meeting my birth mother in person, that would be an amazing experience, but my parents will always be my parents. Even though my Dad is no longer with us my Mom is and Dad is always in my heart.
I am anxious to move back home as soon as we can muster up the funds to do so because I have not seen my mom in five years and I miss her so very much.
