Here is a place inhabited by native Americans over a thousand years ago.
Huge boulders make natural shelters and evidence of various tribes is still evident.
These stones were used to grind various seeds, beans and corn if they had any.
The grinding holes are all over the place but all the utensils have ended up in museums.
This area is called Council Rocks and it is often listed as the place where Cochise negotiated a peace deal with General Howard in 1872 (though the real meeting place is elsewhere).
Many petroglyphs are left over here from the Mogollon. I suspect maybe these are similar to the water spirits that the mound builders make in Wisconsin.
High up on this stone there are human figures very faded. I suspect they made a scaffolding of some kind to get up there to paint them.
The zig zag lines are speculated to represent rivers or water. There are some natural springs and rivers here in the mountains as well but who knows what the environment was like 1000 years ago here.
And quite a mix of rivers, humans and spirals on this rock. I suspect the spiral has to do with the sun.
Another spiral but part of it has really faded with the weather.
This little guy appears to have a headdress of some kind. Or maybe ancient aliens is correct in assuming the strange humanoids are from another planet.
At first glance I thought these zig zags represented snakes as many snakes also inhabit these rocks.
Some of these petroglyphs might have been added by Apache's a few hundred years ago. Only a historian can speculate who made these ancient drawings and what they meant to the people.
