Here is a memory from the past when I used to help out a small vintage guitar store with photography and web programming.
This guitar store was comprised of a personal collection of a bunch of vintage guitars. The owner was retired and ran it as a hobby where he could buy, trade and sell vintage guitars.
Here is one of his rare guitars. This is a 1966 Fender Stratocaster in about as perfect original condition as a guitar could be from this year.
The only major sign of wear for this guitar is the typical dings around the edge and some wear on the arm side of the body.
The back shows little wear as well except for on the neck area where the finish towards the top has been worn down from playing.
You can see the nitro finish has crackled on the headstock with age. Amazingly the frets were all still good and original. I would imagine this nearly 60 year old guitar got a lot of play in the first few years then got put away in its case under a bed and forgotten. I've seen a refinished guitar from this era sell for $20k USD so who knows what this thing might be worth now with its original case and finish. I'm pretty sure this one sold at a guitar show a year later so it is off in someone's collection now.
