Here are a few summer sightings for #featheredfriday
My first sighting was a cedar waxwing. They like to hang out in this area and eat wild rose hips.
Quite a few song sparrows were out too. I managed to get this guy with a dark tree behind him.
I slowly moved around to get a green background behind him as well. With tame birds like this you can take your time to adjust the focal region and shift the background for different looks.
Eventually it got leery of me and flew up into a bush nearby.
Next I heard the squeaky toy sound high up in the tree. This revealed a red bellied woodpecker.
Finally it got itself into a position where I could see its face. Also it is interesting to see how they use their tail feathers to spike into the tree as leverage for pecking the bark for insects. I'm not sure what this guy was able to catch out of the tree, kind of looks like a cricket.
A loud Baltimore Oriole was high up in the tree. I can rarely get good shots of them since they are always so high up.
As usual the red winged blackbirds were around posing nicely by the lake. They are a bit less aggressive now that spring is over.
I never miss an opportunity to shoot a chipmunk. I had to turn the flash on this guy because it was pretty dark in the shade.
I noticed someone put some koi in the lake. Maybe they got tired of taking care of them in their backyard pond. Now they will have to dodge fishermen looking to catch bluegill.
