Some time ago, about two years ago, when I had little time on Hive, I started a series which I called Memories from a not so distant past, of which I published five installments, which you can see below:

For one reason or another I stopped making these publications, although I always kept them present, because in my house I have several old objects, some I have bought, others have been given to me, and many more I have inherited, and I have as much as possible. my possibilities, to preserve them, because these objects are no longer manufactured, they do not exist, and they were of great use and importance in their day and I consider it valuable to make them known, especially to the new generations. So today I have decided to resume this series, and for today I bring you some LOLLIPOP MOLDS as a memory of a not so distant past.

I have always liked sweets, always. I know that it is not a very healthy habit, but it is inevitable, I admit it, I like them a lot, although lately, as a result of the change in lifestyle, I have tried to reduce their consumption because I know that eating industrialized sweets in excess negatively affects health and wellness. It is also true that I have been very curious to learn how to make them, although I never formally set out to do so (however, now I think I will do some experiments to create healthy treats). Now, let's go to the memory of a not so distant past that I bring you today, and it consists, as I was already saying, of some molds for lollipops, which are the ones you can see in the following photos.

At first glance they look like stones, or perhaps prehistoric objects, but no, they are not that, they are small cones made of clay, mud, which were later baked, perhaps in direct contact with burning wood, since you can see the marks of baking burn, which were used to make delicious handmade lollipops early or maybe mid of the 20th century.

I'm going to describe each of these cones, starting from the smallest to the largest:

  • The smallest cone is the “fattest”, it is lighter in color, it is 4.5 cm high, 4.5 cm in external circumference, 3 cm in internal circumference and has a 3.5 cm hole depth, that is, these last two measurements correspond to the width and height of the lollipop, respectively.

  • The medium cone, is a darker tone, measures 5.5 cm high, 4 cm external circumference, 3 cm internal circumference and a hole 5 cm deep, that is, these last two measurements correspond to the width and lollipop height, respectively.

  • The tallest cone is lighter in color than the previous one, and it has the peculiarity that its hole is square, not circular; measures 6 cm high, 3 cm in external circumference, and the box is 2 cm per side and has a hole 5.5 cm deep, that is, these last two measurements correspond to the width and height of the lollipop, respectively, which will present 4 flattened or straight sides.

The story of how these molds came into my hands is sad, I will tell you: I have these cones because I inherited them from my aunt; At the same time, my aunt received them from someone who gave them to her, because that person knew that she liked old things (just like me), so she gave her these three. Now, whoever gave them to her, picked them up off the street, yes, off the street, where they had been thrown, thrown away (literally), by the family of an old lady, who passed away in the late 90's (can't remember the exact year), and her family did not value her belongings, and they threw many of these molds (there were dozens), along with other candy molds, and various personal belongings of this elderly woman into the street. Neither my aunt nor I knew this lady in depth, what my aunt did tell me is that this lady raised her children, selling sweets, lollipops and candies, which she made by hand and sold them in her house, and this was for decades.

I cannot judge these people, I do not know the reasons why they got rid of the personal belongings of that old woman, who I suppose made these molds with her own hands, I just want to say that it is sad, unfortunate and degrading that things like this happen. However, I want to highlight the historical value of these objects, which have been decorating a corner of my living room for many years, and being a memories from a not so distant past.

Here I end my post today, with which I return to a series that I had left on pause for some time, but which I am now returning to, to publicize and value those objects that were significant at the time. It would also be interesting to know if you have any memories of a not so distant past. Greetings to all.
