Nuclear explosions unlike earthquakes and volcano eruptions are the product of human inginuity. And like earthquakes and volcanoes, they are quite terrifying.
Being able to make a nuclear explosion is the ultimate egoistical trip as your unleashing of such power puts you on par with the creator of volcanoes and tsunamis, which are known as acts of God. So in order to be full, you need to have one or many nuclear warheads together with the ability to deliver these anywhere you please.
In order to prevent nuclear explosions, you can do many things that are unlikely to help if that does not address your desire to prove yourself as capable as a God.
But how can this be realistically achieved when the more capable you become or prove to be, the more rewards you are likely to receive from those around you?
So, one of the best possible strategy to prevent nuclear war must be to learn not to reward all mighty achievements, even if these achievements appear to make you full.
Another strategy must be to learn to reward de-escallation strategies and strategists. For instance, modern human societies rely heavily on armed uniformed gun-people (AUG) to maintain it's power structure. AUG are often asked to attempt to de-escallate situations rather than to use lethal force but AUG still have the support of society in their escalation of some situations to the point where they fire their weapons of ultimate dominance. This needs to come to an end. Typically, AUGs do not respond to average people's request that they do not use lethal force in fulfilling their duties. And they would have you believe that fulfilling their duties does require them to use lethal force. So, there is a need to learn to disagree with the general ideology behind the AUG discourse.
The possession of weapons of ultimate dominance such as guns is strictly an ego thing, and it's all about showing off a power of life and death over others and making people fear for their lives over the threat implied by this show of power. This kind of behavior can no longer be found acceptable by ordinary people if we really mean to prevent nuclear attacks.
However, we have now been through a few centuries of people using weapons and the momentum to eliminate their use just isn't there and it needs to be fostered by average people who think that their individual actions and beliefs in this respect does matter.
