As a conscientious objector of nuclear armament, there are some activities which I feel I cannot engage in (like eating animal products) and the more I think about it, the better I feel about my non-participation.
My conscience requires that I trust and follow the conclusions of my own intelligence. Please, allow me to share a bit of that with you right now.
When special groups of individuals function in a society where they don't need to understand or approve of the leading characters of the society in which they contribute and to which they are subject, you will find that farm animals form these special groups.
Now farm animals benefit from the top layer of human societies in a number of ways and the top layer of human society reciprocally finds what it wants in their relation with them. As a conscientious objector, I realize that the relation between the top layer of society and farm animals is troubling, abusive, objectionable. The abuse of vulnerable individuals is something my conscience tells me to object to as much as possible.
If, as a conscientious objector to nuclear armament, my conscience were to be okay with animal use and abuse then it becomes quite clear that if another nearby planet existed and was inhabited by farm animals, my conscience might support the sending of a nuclear bomb over there to kill them, as such attack would be seen not even as an attack or an act of war but simply as a livestock reduction procedure. In other words, as a conscientious objector, my conscience may require the presence of a certain category of victims in order to find the nuclear armament troubling to my conscience. So, if for some reason, I were to decide that all the people in some countries are evil and of lesser value than animals, then there would be no more objection to the use of nuclear armament against them as they would be de-humanised before the nuclear armament is used. My point here is that if you are not concerned about the welfare of farm animals, then you are not concerned about innocent members of our society that are the most at odds with the layer of our society that is currently associated with nuclear armament. Can your conscience really agree with that?
Now at this point, given that we know the nuclear armament comes from the top layer of a nation, (see this post) it would be a good thing to try and form a certain solidarity with fellow workers that are neither a part of this top layer and who simply cannot reach that level anyway. Doing this is an activist strategy and it is based on an understanding of where the threat comes from and it shows an interest in uniting with those who don't originate from the ominous group. So the point is, if you are a conscientious objector to nuclear armament, you really need to go vegan, to show your solidarity with innocent groups that are victimized by those who have control over the nuclear warheads.
If you neglect to start off with this simple step, and still consider yourself a conscientious objector, then you are simply not doing anything convincing to show that you truly object: How convincing can you be when you say that your conscience stops you from supporting instruments of mass killing but if the mass killing occurs to the appropriate ones then your conscience is fine with it? What kind of people have a conscience like that?
If you consider yourself a conscientious objector based on your religious beliefs, and if these religious beliefs originate from the top layer of your society, then you may end up finding that your religion is fine with nuclear armament and this means your conscientious objection could earn you the wrath of your God! The God of servants that originate from the top layer of their society should be expected to support big bombs! So, if your conscience is of religious origin, you may not be in a position to do activism for nuclear disarmament. Your conscience must be your own if you are to be effective as a conscientious objector.
The above may give you a clearer picture as to how you can prove yourself as an effective conscientious objector, and along this path, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that both your health and your environment will improve from this action. In my next post, I'll keep digging into the kind a behavior that you might expect from activist conscientious objectors, as this is a fascinating subject.
