We are back to this corner of my music room where my orchids are thriving.
Today, we will clone two of my orchids.
This is the product I am using- Keike Paste. There are several brands of this paste, I guess any brand is as good as the other. It is a product composed of natural plant growth regulators and vitamins that are applied to plant buds to encourage new growth.
You need a cotton swab and a toothpick (it works for me).
Locate the node closest to the base of the flower stem of your orchid.
Remove the thin leaf-like material (called the <em<bract) covering the knob from the node to expose the bud.
Then using a cotton swab, apply a small amount paste to the bud... about the size of a pea.
I do it again to the other orchid. See!
We shall wait two weeks for buds to show signs of growth. In the meantime while I am waiting, I will continue watering the orchids like normal.
Once keike has formed three or four roots about a half an inch long, it is safe to remove the keiki from the mother plant.
A keiki is the product of asexual propagation by a mature plant resulting in an exact clone of its parent. Keikis first look like miniature leaves that slowly grow into a miniature plant. Growth of Orchid Flower Stem- University of FloridaKeiki in Hawaiian means "baby" or "child". It means a "the little one".
