I’m am officially getting off my soapbox today. No one has a clue what the hell is really happening in this world. Well not everyone, but we are a very small portion of the population compared to the people living their lives with blinders on.
It’s back to sharing shiny things once again. I remember exactly when are where I bought this bar from. I was at a coin show in Maryland, me and a friend took the train down on a Sunday.
When we got to the train station there were tons of people everywhere. Including tons of cops on foot, horses, cars and utility vehicles. There was some kind of demonstration/rally going on. About what I never really found out. But the streets were all blocked off, meaning we couldn’t get a taxi to take us to the coin show.
Luckily I had been to this show many times and knew which way to head. Thankfully it was in the opposite direction of the main demonstration. It took us quite a while to navigate through the area near the train station. Once we were through it was roughly a mile or so up the boulevard.
Most coin shows are free entry on Sundays if they are a three day event. As we approach the hotel the show was at, I noticed a bunch of dealers loading up their vans already. It was only about noon time and the show was open till 4pm.
I saw one of the dealers that I had bought from several times outside. For some reason I can’t at the moment remember his name but his place is Cameo Coins and I know it’s in Virginia somewhere.
I asked did the show end? He said no but it mind as well have. There’s been nearly zero foot traffic today, so we are closing up and heading home early. I told him what wax going on around the train station. He said that’s probably why no people.
We walked inside and many dealers were packing up. Probably more than half actually. The ones that were still there looked like they didn’t have a good show for sales.
As always I do a complete loop of the room, seeing if anyone has something that catches my eye. During that loop my buddy ended up stopping and purchasing two $5 graded Indian head coins. He’s primarily a gold coin collector.
There were several things I liked but they were all out of my price range at that time. I did spot 2 dealers with bargain bins of silver. So on the second loop, with my buddy content on his purchases. I went looking to buy some weight in silver.
The bin at the first dealer was practically empty. Most of the stuff left was colorized and or holiday related bars. Not my thing at all. The second one had a decent selection, but was asking $1 over spot for them, which was very high at that time.
I started to walk away when he said to me “Didn’t see anything you liked?”. My reply was didn’t see a price I liked.
He called me back and we got talking. He was strictly a show dealer from southern Pennsylvania. I asked him what silver he had closest to spot price. If I remember correctly silver was just above $18 at the time.
He pulled out this bar I am about to show you and said if you give me $600 it’s yours. I looked at it, looked at my buddy and gave him the look.
I said I only have $500 on me, what do you have left I asked my buddy Chris? He said I’ve got $100 but we need $20 of it to get back to the train station. I turned and said $580 is all we’ve got. Can you do $580?
He initially said no. But as we were walking away he called us back and said ok $580 it is.
So this fine Silvertowne Mint cast kilo bar is from that show.
