Evening everyone…..
I’ve been working like a dog all week, trying to get myself back in a groove. My girlfriend mandated a dinner night last night. I haven’t seen her at all this week and I’ve barely even text or spoke to her on the phone.
So I chose Mexican food. There’s a place I’ve been wanting to try for a while now, that is closer to her house than mine. The name of the place is Lola’s Waterfront Cocina Latina. It’s located right on the water of Lake Hopatcong.
We started off with a few well deserved margaritas. Which were quite tasty!!!
They bring freshly made tortillas chips and kitchen made salsa.
Jennifer ordered the chicken quesadilla, which she said was fantastic.
I chose what was called the Lola combo. Which is a six ounce skirt steak which is marinated in lime juice and chilis with smoked cumin. It also has a six ounce chicken breast which has a honey chili sauce. Then to top it off they also had four jumbo shrimp on top sautéed in garlic and sweet chilis. It’s served with a side of white rice and fresh made black beans. My dish was fantastic, I barely finished I kinda forced the last few bites it was that good.
So today I’m going to share one of them with you. It’s a 1942 Walking Liberty Half Dollar from the Philadelphia Mint. There were just over forty two million of these struck, but there aren’t any where near that many that still look like this.
The coin has a very nice mint luster, it has great detail and very little wear. I’m going to say it’s between an MS62 and an MS63.
The melt value of the coin is about $23, but in this condition the coin you see is worth at least 5X that. Ungraded versions of this coin have completed sales between $50 to $70.
The post it in the box listed me paying $18 for it at a coin show in New York in 2018. So in the five years that I’ve owned it, the coin has 3X its value. Can’t say that for the spot price.

I have come across many raw (ungraded) coins. Some of them I have no memory of buying, but they are coins that I like so obviously I did. This particular series is extremely difficult to obtain in mint state. There are many years of short mintages, key dates, semi key dates.
