Afternoon everyone....
When I first got back into collecting coins roughly seventeen years ago after numerous years away. I was buying raw coins as I had previously done. (A raw coin is a non graded coin). As I have always done I looked for the nicest pieces I could find.
If you have been reading my posts, you know that I have been trying to organize my collection box by box from my private security place. I am making lists of what is in each box, because once I have gone through each box the true organizing will commence.
While organizing I am also picking coins that I would like to submit for grading. I have far to many raw coins to send them all in, but I am cherry picking about thirty which will be narrowed down to twenty before submitting them.
Yesterday I came across this beautiful lady and instantly knew this had to get graded.
I remember exactly when I bought this coin and where. It was at a coin show in Florida, I was visiting my aunt and uncle. I read in the newspaper there was an annual coin show that weekend.
My uncle decided to join me. He thought people were insane for spending that kind of money on money.....😂🤣😂🤣
Needless to say when I bought this coin for I believe was around $200, he told me I was crazy.
Enough on the story, you want to see the coin.....
It’s a 1917 Type 1 Standing Liberty Quarter and it is a beauty. The was to tell if it’s a type 1 or type 2 is the left breast of Lady Liberty. A type one is a bare breast and a type 2 there is a chainmail covering her breast area.
The type one is far more valuable to collectors. This coin has very little toning, the head is still a full head which is the very first sign of wear. I have gone over this coin numerous times now with a 10x, 30x and a 50x loupe. There is no sign of cleaning or dipping, there is still a great amount of luster and the detail on the eagle feathers is fantastic.
I’m conservatively calling this coin an MS64 FH which means “full head” which is a designation you want on the slab for resale value.
