Afternoon everyone…..
I’ve been in a bad mood for a while now. And catching up on my emails made it worse……
Why?
Because BASF doesn’t have enough money, and has decided to use a third party to reproduce Engelhard products.
The 2026 Revived Engelhard Prospector is the newest issue in the return of one of the most iconic names in American silver. Struck in .999 fine silver, it brings the classic Prospector design back under official license. As an early-dated release in the revived series, it carries added appeal for collectors following the line from its start.
An Officially Licensed Return
Engelhard was one of the most trusted precious metals refiners in America for most of the twentieth century, and its original Prospector rounds, produced from 1982 to 1987, became some of the most collected silver in the market. After the brand left bullion at the end of the 1980s and passed to BASF in 2006, the Prospector returned in 2025. The revived series is officially licensed by BASF and produced in the USA by the MKS PAMP Group through Manfra, Tordella & Brookes (MTB), one of the oldest names in the American bullion trade. These are licensed continuations of the Engelhard line, not reproductions, which is what sets them apart from generic tribute rounds.
Design and Specifications
Each round is struck in .999 fine silver and carries the classic Engelhard prospector panning at the streambed, inscribed with "The American Prospector," U.S.A., and the year. The opposite face carries the Engelhard hallmark alongside the weight and purity. The 1 oz round measures 39mm.
From what I read and have seen on the Monument Metals website, they are making a half ounce and one ounce prospector round, a ten ounce cast bar, a kilo cast bar and a one hundred ounce cast bar.
While I have a special place in my heart for anything from Engelhard because of it being from my childhood and also because they were literally 14 miles away from where I lived. These are not made by Engelhard or even BASF who bought Engelhard, they are made by a third party. While I don’t doubt that they have done a great job with them, I can not support this product line.
I’m actually sharing it to say my position on them being produced. While you are all able to make your own decision on this, as it is your hard earned money buying them.
NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE REPRODUCED!!!!!
LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!
