Have you ever eaten a dish with blood as one of the ingredients? What are your thoughts about it?
I have. Most specifically blood sausage while my mother and I were in Ireland. They call it black pudding, basically pork blood with oats and some other ingredients to make it a sausage-like consistency. White pudding is the same but made with the fat instead of blood.
Now basically what we did was order what the restaurant called a 'full Irish breakfast'; a few slices of toast, bacon, eggs and a patty of each type of pudding. Being obviously American tourists when we asked what the pudding was because it looked like sausage the waitress just told us to try it and then she'd tell us what it was.
My mom wasn't willing to take the chance but I did, and I ended up eating both mine and hers. We were only told afterwards what it really was and while my mom was disgusted (and glad she didn't try it) I actually found it quite nice. I even ended up ordering some more of the black pudding/blood sausage to go for the day, it was really good.
I don't have any qualms about eating blood, especially when it's cooked into things as long as it's sanitized properly. I'm actually really sad it's hard to find good blood sausage here in the states because of the prejudice about such things ):
