Some countries are having difficulties deciding which restroom people should use because of issues involving gender identity, gender expression and partial or complete gender transformation. The changes to the bathroom signs are both fun and interesting.
Traditional Signs
These two are colorful
This ones clear without words.
Non-traditional Signs
These signs seem to indicate the restroom doesn鈥檛 care what you call yourself.
Humor in non traditional signs
Some signs seek to bring a little humor to the situation.
People just need a place to pee.馃檭馃檪
Some are going to an extreme and boldly declare that a toilet has no gender. Imagine that 馃槈. It鈥檚 not a boy toilet or a girl toilet. It鈥檚 just a toilet.**
These people are members of the Toilet Liberation Army. They are known to put up signs like this one.
Then there鈥檚 the movement to call a bathroom a bathroom and say it鈥檚 for people.
I think that sometimes simplicity is best.
Now all humor aside...
I think there are some important society issues here regarding gender identity. But I doubt we will solve them by painting or restricting bathroom usage.
In general, I think people just need a safe, clean and private place to urinate or defecate.
I would personally prefer that we spend our collective energy on feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, clothing the unclothed and eradicating infectious diseases like malaria and tuberculosis, which cause great suffering in the world.
Spending large sums of money and diverting resources away from problems like hunger and disease, to debate where people can urinate, just doesn鈥檛 seem like good stewardship.
