MOTHER NATURE SURPRISE
On Monday (9/20), I walked outside to see the ground filling up with brown and amber-colored leaves. I could hear them falling and hitting the ground. It's kind of odd to think that a leaf falling would have enough weight to make a sound. All around me was the crunchy tap sound of leaves falling down.
I stood for a moment in stunned silence, watching (and listening) to the leaves in my front yard actively falling from the trees. This was in stark contrast to Sunday which had been another normal day. It was almost as if all the trees had received a memo and been told,
"Get rid of those old leaves post haste! They've served their purpose and are not needed any longer. We must prepare for Winter!" <-or at least that's what I think a memo from Mother Nature would sound like.
I get it. The official beginning of Fall is September 21st, so it made sense that the leaves would begin their annual leaf dropping. It was just such a marked difference between one day to the next. Like someone flipped a switch. I guess someone did, Mother Nature.
INSPIRATION STRIKES
I'm not complaining. More surprised than anything else at the suddenness of it all. Although I will say, it was good timing since I hadn't thought of what this week's #WednesdayWalk photos were going to feature. Now, thanks to the "memo", I had a prime subject for today.
Leaves aren't the only things falling from the trees. As I walk around my neighborhood, I can see acorns along the street underneath the oak trees they were once attached to. I hear loud taps as they fall on cars parked underneath those very trees. They crunch beneath my shoes as I walk the otherwise peaceful streets.
The leaves collecting by the curbs crunch loudly as I walk through them. There is something satisfying about the process. Not sure if it is the colors, the sound, or the reminder that seasons are changing. Perhaps it is a mix of all.
