It was Saturday morning, the rising sun cast a rosy hue across the morning sky. It was a gorgeous summer, the birds were singing and the blazing morning sun shone relentlessly on the beautiful garden that surrounded my grandma's bungalow lighting up the scene. I rubbed my bleary eyes and shoved my duvet allowing them to fall, then walked to my window and stared at the peaceful world. The thought of the day being a Saturday put a bright smile on my face. Working in my office was hectic, not especially when we resume as early as 7Am and close very late when everyone is fast asleep. My grandma would always say,

"Flora, why not quit this Job and become a gardener like me, it pays just as good as your accounting job".

I missed her, it's been five years since she was laid to rest but the memories still remain fresh. She had taught me how to cultivate flowers and select the best species for ornaments and events. I may have considered her advice if being an accountant wasn't my life long dream. Every summer, she selected flowers that attracted beautiful birds to come rest on them. When it was summer, I always wished she was here to make the season more blissful.

I left the window and walked to my grandma's library filled with books and novels. It was a place where she loved to relax while reading. Her favorite Novel was "The flower yard" by Authur Parkinson, It had come to become my favorite as well. I picked it up on the shelves and flipped through some pages. I sighed when I realized it had a part that talks about the beginning of the summer with flowers. A relief for me for the summer I thought. I grin pleasure at the thought of making the summer memorable. The culture of cultivating flowers ceased since the death of grandma,

"Maybe she was counting on me to bring back this culture" I said to myself as I walked to the kitchen to prepare myself some breakfast. I made some pancakes and had it with tea. Saturday seemed to be a day of reflection for me. While I sat eating it , I remembered my first experience. I had burned the entire pancake and was forced to eat it alone. I smiled broadly at the thought as I continued to eat. I was determined to make the Saturday productive, and that was to plant some flowers such as grandma would in summer.
