"Many people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) have trouble sleeping through the night. In some cases, PD symptoms like rigidity or tremor keep people awake. The brain changes that are part of PD also can cause sleep difficulties, and some people have problems sleeping even before movement symptoms develop and PD is diagnosed. In addition, some PD medications can disrupt sleep at night, and others make people sleepy during the day. A good night’s rest is essential to feeling well. Disrupted sleep can affect your health, mood and overall quality of life. Furthermore, when people with PD don’t sleep well, the sleep of their care partners is disrupted too. Care partners also need restful sleep to stay healthy", (http://www.pdf.org/sleep_disturbance, 2017).
Most of this is true in my case. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease April 2016. My diagnosis was brought about due in large part to the sleep disorder I was having. I had the basic hand and neck tremors, but the night time was the worse for me.
I was immediately given a list of medications to take in order to help me sleep at night. I was also given a list of medications to deal with the side effects of those medications. In addition, this all felt very overwhelming to me, so I was prescribed an antidepressant. So many pills to take. I was an emotional and physical mess.
In January I was determined to change all of that and began to work on the inside out. I started reading and meditating, and I got back into yoga. Through my weekly yoga classes, I was introduced to essential oils. This was the biggest turn around for me. I learned that Frankincense was thought to relieve the symptoms of Parkinson's and related sleep disorders. I was skeptical, but was willing to give it a try.
I started rubbing Frankincense oil on my feet at night and diffusing it everywhere. It was working so well I convinced myself I could stopped taking all of my medications (without consulting with my neurologist). Well that wasn't very wise of me. I soon realized that yes Frankincense does help relieve some or most of my sleep disorder symptoms, not all of my medications were related to my sleep disorder.
Today I can say that I have stopped taking all but three of my previously prescribed medications. This is due to not only Frankincense, but a new healthier outlook on life and a peaceful night's rest. By the way, I now consider myself an Essential Oil Guru and trust that, "I have an oil for that". LOL
