A few weeks ago, someone called me at 8:45pm while I was already fast asleep. I forced myself out of sleep to answer the call, and when the person noticed how dull I was, I told her that already asleep; she was surprised that I went to sleep at that hour in the evening.
That's exactly how it is with me now. I now sleep very early, and that's on a daily basis. It's not just on the days when I have overworked myself. I know the importance of sleep, and it's one thing I have been depriving myself of for a long time.
At this age of mine, I've decided to take the right path toward maintaining my health and give myself more sleeping time. I'm not the type that falls sick easily. I can actually go from year to year without experiencing any major sickness, other than a few hours of headache or a runny nose. But this doesn't mean that because I don't fall sick easily, I should subject myself to lifestyles that will eventually invite sickness. So, yeah, I sleep very early to get enough sleep before the tasks of the following day commence. This not only helps me maintain good physical health but also supports my mental health.
As far as I know, no one is less important than others. The two need to be cared for because the way one suffers from physical breakdown is the same as when there's a breakdown in one's mental health. A lot of people usually discard the topic of mental health just because it's the physical health that appears more often in one's body system.
As for me, I'm doing everything possible to keep my mental health in good shape. This is why I mind the kind of videos I watch, the kind of news I read, the kind of conversation I allow into my life.
Taking care of one's health should therefore go beyond treating sickness whenever it appears. It should also involve making conscious decisions that prevent unnecessary problems from developing in the first place. Getting enough sleep, taking care of the body, protecting one's mind, and being mindful of the things we expose ourselves to are all part of living a healthier life.
