These photos were taken near the village of Markovo in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Russia. We were in the village for several days and the nature around it was completely different: a rather large Anadyr river flows there and around there are few fields, a little forest — an ordinary landscape. But as soon as I drove 5-6 kilometers from Markovo, I saw a completely different picture.
Multi-colored tundra, dry or almost dry beds of countless nameless streams and channels that fill with water during floods. When the big water leaves, from these streams there are only gradually drying up small ponds in the deepest places, which are overgrown along the edges with juicy greenery of plants. Combined with the vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds of the vegetation further back from the riverbed, it looks magical.
