The In-between Time
This is the period I like to call the in-between time. It’s those few days between Boxing Day 26th of December and 29th of December.
Some shops are open amd others are closed until February for the holidays.
It’s a cross between being bored but also being forced to relax whether I like it or not. Time off but the fun stuff is closed, Summer and therefore hot but it’s raining with thunder and lighting.
Everything is in a state of quantum flux, brimming with potential energy, while just being ordinary days at the same time. Such potential is imaginary, and our calendars have no real influence on nature, but the idea gives us comfort and uneasy anticipation of whatever goodies 2024 holds.
I’d prefer to be working to be honest, but for those that have worked every day of the year, it’s a welcome relief I’m sure.
I’m sitting in a local pizza shop waiting at a table for my large supreme pizza and bottle of Pepsi Max to be ready and presented to me.
It’s a wet day and the occasional booms of thunder and small flashes of lightning are punctuated by he sounds of the Indian store owner berating his staff in Hindi.
I don’t understand any of it and it sounds like the chattering of birds. I wonder if I’ll need to learn Hindi just to get work in my own country.
My neighbour is a refugee from Somalia. He has a Muslim name, but is a Christian and claims to be a preacher who can “bring he light” and “drive away he darkness”. He’s definitely got a mental illness.
He had a very loud verbally abusive fight with his wife on Christmas Eve and his prayers haven’t stopped the squatters and junkies from haunting the area.
He hates people from India with a passion and thinks it’s unfair that they can speak Hindi in the workmplace while he can’t speak his own lamguage and is forced to use English.
Not exactly very Christ-like, but I can understand his frustration.
But I digress. The pizza is now here.
I sit and eat while watching the passing cars, mindful of the weather and the background Hindi. It's a language I might need to learn at some point.
The pizza was great and the opportunity to slow down and actually enjoy my meal was not lost on me.
I get home to find out I need to send a photo for the accreditation I need for some work in January.
It's always a hassle to get it right for their systems.
They allow for a portrait photo, but want it cropped into a square shape. Why?!
It makes no sense to me...
I prefer the first one for an ID image, but the second one is the one that showed my shoulders for their purposes. I swear I am not vain. It is interesting how different I look between the photos but only a few minutes had passed though.
Now I am going through some online courses for some things I want to achieve by this time next year. I know I can do them if I have a focus and chip away at them every day.
Ûdemy is the name of the website and the courses are usually very good and I bought a few of them really cheap before Christmas and now it's time to catch up on them.
Until next time,
Thanks for reading.
From my heart to yours...
