The weather was terrible, and it was time for my annual check up with a medical specialist, so I headed up to Modbury to see what they had to say. While walking through the carpark, I often encounter
amusing licence plates like this one:

As it turns out my bloodwork had improved since last time and they were impressed to the point where I didn’t need a follow up appointment. This was great news, however, I still needed to be careful with my food choices.

I have this theory that food often tastes better after seeing a specialist (I have no evidence to support this, so don’t quote me, and it’s completely facetious to boot!) so, I decided to treat myself.

If you haven’t been to the Modbury Shopping Centre in a while, you’d be pleased to find that where the entrance to the cinema was, is now a renovated area that almost looks and feels like another country entirely! There are new restaurants there that I have yet to try, and one that has always fascinated me was TGI Fridays.

TGI Fridays

TGI Fridays is an American Bar and Grill restaurant. Before you even enter, you can see big screen TVs displaying various sports from around the world, including American football and Aussie Rules football. I don’t have an interest in either, but it’s cool to know that if you wanted to watch them, you could.

Ignoring the rain, I stood outside checking out the menu and price list. The prices are reasonable, I thought to myself but it could be pricey if I wasn’t too selective. Today though I was in a good mood,
despite the weather and I didn’t mind splurging a little.

Upon entering, I noticed signs informing me about the contract tracking requirements as a response to the pandemic, and the usual social distancing rules. I’m glad that Adelaide has had zero new cases for a while now and there’s at least some sort of normalcy.

A young, attractive, server looked up and smiled at me. She had raven black hair and was wearing light blue eyeshadow, red lipstick and a mild blush. That’s not the kind of thing I normally notice, but I wondered if it was a dress code requirement or her personal choice. She was wearing a dark blue shirt that might have been a uniform, but I couldn’t tell and she was the only female staff member there, so I had nothing to compare it to. Either way, it suited her and I wasn’t judging.

She asked me for my name and phone number. No, it’s not what you think!
It was just part of the contract tracing requirements in case there was a Covid breakout traced to to the restaurant.

I did internally muse about wishing I was 20 years younger, while still knowing what I do now.
But I shouldn’t dwell on my regrets.

The Entree

I was pretty sure that I ordered the Burrito Bowl, but what came out was the Caesar Salad. Then I remembered it was because the price was cheaper I ordered this instead.
Anyway, this consisted of lettuce, potato croutons, peppered bacon and egg mixed with Caesar dressing.

The Main Course

img_6403.jpgFridays(tm) Signature Glaze Chicken

This was a chicken breast char-grilled, served with thick cut fries, coleslaw and a side of their glaze. The chicken was amazing and the chips were fantastic.

The Dessert

img_6404.jpgA chocolate thickshake

While I do need to be more conscious of both my carbohydrate and sugar intake, and know that I will get some grilling over having this, I was in a good mood and no one but me, the staff and the rest of the internet would know: I had a chocolate thickshake. So, don’t tell anyone, OK? Chuckle.

I’m not proud of it, but look at it! Perfection in a glass!

It was a great day out and a great meal to finish it off. Soon it was time to head off home.
I wonder if I really should take up jogging again after all that?

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this entry.
Until next time, I’ll see you in the kitchen!
