Hail and Half-Arsed Halloween

Hail

Here in Adelaide it's Spring. People here do this crazy thing where they seem to forget that Spring is the season between Winter and Summer, so then they complain when it rains or worse yet, when it hails! They expect it to be sunny the moment Winter ends on the calendar.

I don't know the science behind it, but apparently because of the topography of Adelaide we'll never get snow unless it's on the top of Mt. Lofty and even then it's a rare event, during Winter and we'd be lucky to get a few inches.

Instead what we get are hail stones.

It's pretty dismal, isn't it?

They can range from the sizzle of gravel stones to larger than golf balls. There are cars in Adelaide covered in small dents from this time last year when the golf ball sized hailstones did their thing. The damage is barely visible, but it's enough to reduce the car's resale value, and it's expensive to fix.

I must admit to having a chuckle seeing the damage on expensive sports cars though.

Half-Arsed Halloween

Halloween in Australia was something that was slow to take off. There was the perception that it was "an American thing" and that we shouldn't have it here. There was the usual religious opposition to fun as well.

Because we are in the Southern hemisphere, the seasons are opposite meaning that Halloween here falls in the Spring rather than Autumn or Fall. For the Pagans, it would be Beltane here rather than Samhain, but I don't think they mind too much here.

For lunch I'd gone to the Samnang Bakery again, and had a Caesar Chicken Salad. The salad his pre-made but there is the a choice of chicken and I went for the shredded version.
Hail Caesar! Chuckle.

I saw a few trick-or-treaters dressed up and they had a small amount of lollies / candy in their pumpkin-shaped buckets outside. I couldn't tell who they were dressed up as, but I assume it was from some anime that I wasn't familiar with.

There were only a few homes that had been decorated in spooky fashion. The cover image was one of them.

This was the other one:

The photos are a bit blurry because I was zooming in from across the street.

For me personally, my attitude is somewhat half-arsed.
I saw this licence plate that summed up my attitude.
Well, not quite.

altWhat a load of...

I am being somewhat tongue-in-cheek here, I am glad that people are having fun dressing up and being kind to kids, etc.
And it's not like Australians need an excuse to dress up and have parties. While it might lack the same cultural weight as in the USA, Halloween is slowly becoming more and more popular here.

Either way, if you're going to celebrate something don't do it half-arsed.

Do you celebrate Halloween?
Why or why not?

Thank you for reading.
