General Life Update 2023

alt

My life can be surreal at times, and I think if you're being honest, you'll find yours to be that way too.
Within reason, I guess.

Last week started with a Zoom meeting / video viewing of the movie Army Of Darkness, the third movie in the Evil Dead franchise, that was organised by actor and stunt woman: Patricia Tallman.

Then I spent a morning at a meeting with a dietician discussing how to read dietary labels and ingredient lists. I've started changing my diet accordingly.
I've lost 3kgs so far.

I've also picked up a cold so I haven't been eating as much, which helps, but I'd rather not be sick.

On the weekend just gone, I had booked 3 days of work for one company, 1 shift with another company and applied for a shift with a third company on the Sunday.

The first job was doing retail for a 4WD / camping accessories store. There were no dramas and the boss said he'd definitely both me and my coworker again.

I got to have icecream while on my break too.

I took this photo to make a friend laugh.

The second job was a shift with Ticketek selling tickets to a soccer game at Hindmarsh Stadium

The Hindmarsh stadium has been a cashless venue since 2018, but the amount of people wanting to buy tickets with cash is was both amazing and infuriating.

One guy seemed like he'd just recently got out of a mental institution. He had crucifxes tattooed all up the side of one arm and he claimed that he'd never heard of a credit card before in his life. He said he had AU$2000 on him (He had placed what I counted to be AU$800 on the counter, and he seemed unconcerned when the wind threatened to blow it away). I could see more notes in one of his pockets.
Thankfully someone offered to buy him a ticket.

He wasn't the only one that night wanting to pay cash and didn't have a credit card. It was definitely a full moon too. (Why do people hamstring themselves?).

The third job was also at the Hindmarsh Stadium but timed after the second job. While I had applied for the shift, I didn't get it. This company hasn't hired me for over a month. So after the second job finished, I took a look around the stadium to see if I could see other coworkers. I couldn't see anyone.

It turns out that another event company must have won the contract. I got the company's details and I am in the process of applying with them for work.

I have also been talking to other coworkers who work for the third company who have struggled to get shifts when new employees are being given weeks worth of work. The coworkers have suggested they are also going to work elsewhere because they are sick of being strung along. Quite frankly, I am too.

This is why my focus lately has been on putting myself first. Not in a libertarian / selfish sense, but making sure that I can be of maximum benefit to society.

The other aspect is that I simply do not like other people determining whether or not I can pay my rent and as a casual employee, shifts can be cancelled or given to someone else at a moment's notice.

I've applied and been rejected for several jobs lately and it's starting to affect my mental health in a negative way.

Right now I have several possible jobs / shifts in a state of Schroedinger style limbo. I've applied, but I have to wait to be accepted before I can do anything else.

All I can do is apply, cross my fingers in the hope that these employers see reason.

That's all from me today.

Until next time,

Thanks for reading.
