Because my life can be somewhat erratic, (I'm either flat out or bone idle) I've decided to create the hashtag #fridayrecap and using it as a way to post, hopefully once a week a recap of the week's events.
My intention is to inspire myself to write and post here more often, to get out of my comfort zone and be more adventurous and in general make posts more interesting for you, the reader.
That's always the goal, right?
I do like to believe that social media can improve our lives if used correctly. You never know who you're going to meet or experiences you'll have as a result.
Right now I am procrastinating because I need to make a long overdue appointment to see my doctor about my blood sugar levels and possibly a change of medication.
Later this afternoon I need to write a 5 minute comedy routine for a comedy work shop that I started on Monday.
The comedy workshop is one day a week for 4 weeks, finishing with a live performance on stage. Public speaking of any kind used to fill me with dread, and the subconscious self defence mechanisms are tough to combat being as subtle as they are. Childhood traumas are difficult to overcome, but it's an essential skill if I am to have any real success in life at all.
Comedy also requires dedication and sacrifice, much like any worthwhile endeavour. The battle is not with the audience, as you're essentially there for them, but rather against your own mind. Those brave enough to take the stage, regardless of whether you think they're funny or not, deserve some respect or at least not to be heckled.
I went and got the doctor's appointment and went to the Pho Linh Vietnamese restaurant for a late lunch / early dinner.
For something different, I had spring rolls as an entree and beef curry with a side of fried rice for the mains. They make a Milo drink which is quite nice too!
A friend asked me to send him my resume because the company he works for is recruiting. There are no guarantees, but at this stage I need to keep my options open.
Several months ago I bought a tomato growing kit as something to take my mind off of a relationship / friendship that went sour. My thinking was that if I could just get the seeds to sprout I would have achieved something.
Since then one of those seeds has grown to nearly knee high and now has the beginnings of a few tomatoes. I now have a collection of various plants, but I haven't been successful getting beetroot to get past the seedling stage. I will try again with different soil.
The larger tomato here is the size of an Australian 50 cent piece.
The image above was because I used a $10 note on a vending maching before the induction mentioned above. There was so much change it threatened to jam the coin return flap shut.
It was one of the older vending machines that didn't accept credit cards.
The product I bought was called Snaps.
They are pretty healthy compared to everything else on offer.
And just for laughs, I found this shining example of a personalised number plate:
I'd just seen a movie called Doctor Sleep, the Stephen King approved sequel to The Shining. It certainly ends the story.
And as a final note, I decided to shave off my beard. It started off as a joke 2.5 years ago, to try and look like Snake Pliskin from Escape From New York but just ended up looking like Obiwan Kenobi from Star Wars instead.
I'd trimmed it to the point of looking like scruffy stubble and it just didn't look professional at all, so it had to go.
Here's before and after shots:
It onky takes a few weeks, at my age, to grow it back but I would need another strategy I think.
Women seemed to respond to the beard, but those that complimented me on it are no longer in my life. Long story, for another time.
Anyway, it's been quite a week and quite a lengthy post, so I'll leave it here for next time.
Embrace life, your comfort zone is killing you!
