A Parmy At The Cumby
The Career Expo
It had been nearly six weeks without a shift at my factory job (post hernia surgery) and my contract with Splinterlands ending in June, I needed to look for alternative ways of paying my bills.
A week earlier, I'd found a poster advertising a career expo and wanted to go and see what was available, job wise or potentially further education. Maybe even alternate life path.
For the most part, the career expo didn't answer many questions, but raised even more instead and it left me with the feeling that I would need to do more soul searching in regards to my future direction.
On the positive side, I caught up with a friend who hosts quiz nights: DJ Mr. Ed.
I hadn't seen him since before the pandemic and it was good to catch up with him again. He was there to recruit for the Naval shipping College.
After about 40 minutes I'd seen pretty everything I needed to and decided to head off home, and armed with brochures, pamphlets, course guides, tote bags and enough poor quality pens to keep me writing for a while. Or at least until their springs decide to fail and they crumble to pieces in my hand.
The Cumberland Arms Hotel
On the way out of the Wayville Showgrounds I stopped and decided to go to what is affectionately known locally as The Cumby or The Cumberland Arms Hotel.
Despite being only 11:30am on a Saturday, the pub was open. There was an older couple sitting at one of the tables, and a young father with their son at another sharing a bowl of fries.
I sat at one of the tables at the long table along one of the walls and took out a book on finances and investing and started reading until 12pm.
On the corner of the tables were coasters with an image of a chameleon on them stacked neatly.
Beef Schnitzel Parmigiana
In Australia, depending on which state you live in, there is a debate about whether it's called a "parmy" or a "parma", but clearly the root word is "parmigiana".
The pub's menu had a lot of options, but the main choice for schniztels is between either chicken or beef. I chose the Beef Schnitzel, paid extra for the parmigiana topping and a bowl of wedges.
The Wedges
Wedges are a great entree / group share meal because, as you can see, the amount you get for the money is quite a lot.
On this particular day, despite tasting amazing, the inclusion of wedges was too much for me after the schnitzel.
I read more of my finance book, letting what I could eat settle and then caught the train back into the city of Adelaide, before catching a bus to Bunnings to check out their gardening supplies.
More on that another time.
Until then, see you in the kitchens!
Shaidon.
