The Magical and Beautiful World of Lizards
I managed to take this photo today while I was walking towards a friend's house who lives 500 meters away from me in a fairly wooded part of the neighborhood, so there are a bit more domestic animals, such as this time it was this domestic lizard, which we call "guaterica" here, and it is a protected animal because they are endangered.
You can see that it has shed its tail, as lizards do when they are in danger. While the tail moves, they become still, and when the attacker is distracted by the tail, they quietly escape—smart.
They are green in color and really beautiful. They are very difficult to catch, and this photo is one of my favorite animal photos that I managed to take, of course, besides the snake photos I have, but it is much harder to catch a lizard like this in a photo.
We also have lizards that are on the walls of houses, and here in Dalmatia, we call them tarantulas. They are gray or yellowish-transparent in color and are not dangerous; they catch pests, spiders, and other small insects.
Of course, there is also the slightly larger lizard that I had the opportunity to see live three years ago in the field, which we call "Zelembač." It grows quite large, up to 30 cm, has a strong bite, and hides in bushes or vines, which was the case with me when it simply jumped out of a vine stock when I grabbed a bunch of grapes to pick it.
If it feels threatened, it can even attack, but in most cases, it flees.
