I remember discovering this saga in quarantine, when my PC was so underpowered that I could only play indies. In fact, at that time I discovered several small games and sagas that, while not a big deal, managed to captivate me enough to be aware of the next games they make. The Beholder saga was one of them. In my case I had only played the first Beholder, the others were on my list, but I just couldn't find the time to give them a chance. However, recently a new game of the saga came out that, although it takes place in the same universe, it is a story of its own that you can enjoy without playing the previous ones. In fact, all the Beholders have their own story, so you can play them separately without any problem.
So, in this game we will play the role of an employee of a train carriage. For those who do not know the saga, the most important thing is that the world of Beholder is characterized as a world that lives under a government dictatorship. The government has everything under control and any criticism or action that they consider an offense could end in that person being brutally beaten and imprisoned.
As train car attendants we will have a list of tasks to accomplish, things like checking passengers' tickets, reporting to the government if someone is doing something wrong, creating passenger profiles to send to the government and a couple of other things that we will discover as we go along.
Whenever a passenger boards we will check the ticket, compare the information on the ticket with the passenger's profile and see if everything is in order. In case there is any error we will have to mark it and apply a small fine. For each fine applied we will earn some money and rank points.
Many times we will have to build a profile of the passenger, to do this we will need to collect information from them. We will do this by spying on them through the lock without them knowing. By doing this we will be able to see what kind of activities the passenger does, things like singing, reading the newspaper, crying, etc. We will then use all this information to build a profile and send it to the government. For each profile built we will earn some money and rank points.
But in addition to spying on them, we can go further. When the passenger leaves the cabin, we can enter the cabin and check their luggage, by doing this we will get clues or evidence if this particular passenger is doing something that is prohibited by the government. For example, one of the passengers had a red apple in his luggage, this is something that the government does not allow, so we can report the infraction. As with the profiles, each reported infraction will give us some money and rank points.
To create profiles and report infractions we will have the wagon console, where we will fill in the report with the evidence we have collected along with the passenger's data, then we will send it directly to the government. Here we will have to be careful, if we fill in any data wrongly, we will be fined.
If we report an infraction, we will see how the train guards approach the person and begin to beat him, and then take him to jail.
As we play we will find unique missions for each passenger, it is not mandatory that we fulfill them, but if we do we will earn money and rank points, so it is highly recommended. At a certain point in the story we will be asked to have 20,000 rank points to continue. Normally the passengers' missions will be related to getting them an object, although there will be others a little more interesting like having to steal a jewel from a passenger to give it to another.
Although the game begins without a clear objective or story, as we play, a plot will be created, since in addition to seeing the atrocities that the government does, we will discover certain issues that will be related to us.
I must admit that the game has left me with a bittersweet feeling. My intention was to narrate my entire adventure, how I started and what is happening, however, after my first few hours I decided to talk in general, mostly because it can get a little repetitive. The unique and fun missions of the passengers are not so constant, so we will be constantly creating profiles and reporting violations in the console to earn rank points, which in the long run can get a little boring, in my opinion.
