A few years ago, my body was failing. I was stricken with a horrible itching on my arms that had no symptoms of anything visibly to the eye. I began to lose my mind and have nervous break downs... probably because for 2 straight years I had ZERO sleep at night due to the itching... and I didn't even have babies at that time. I saw every doctor imaginable, orthopedic surgeon (who did an MRI over my body), dermatologist (who thought I was insane in the membrane), neurologist (who looked at me and said, "Looks like you have a massive brain tumor!"), and finally a highly specialized chiropractic neurologist (who took one look and said, "I know exactly how to help!")
I was diagnosed with "SIBO" which is small intestine bacterial overgrowth. Who knew?! All these problems from my gut? Come to find out, 80% of your health comes from your gut. Signs and symptoms of really anything you experience that is abnormal is likely because your gut flora is NOT in alignment. I was a Health Promotion and Wellness Major in college, we ate Paleo, I CrossFit every day, so how did this happen?
I was put on a highly restricted diet for 6 weeks, took supplements that aided in healing my gut, and was put on oxygen twice a week to help my blood cells work correctly. There's quite a bit more to my story for a later date... maybe... but I wanted to share because the recipe I would like to share today is for "Bone Broth" which is like SUPER POWER food for your gut health. Here you go...
Bone Broth how to:
Begin with bones from the chicken you made the other night for dinner. 馃悢 Put back in your crockpot or slow cooker.
Cut up some veggies you have in the fridge. Some ideas: carrots, onions, celery, spinach, cabbage, swiss chard, kale etc.
Next, add some spices and any other additional ingredients that would make the broth taste yummy and add nutrients such as: chopped garlic, ghee, celtic sea salt, turmeric, ginger, black pepper, egg shells (they add lots of beneficial nutrients), and apple cider vinegar (which helps break down the bones to release the minerals and marrow into broth).
Now you are ready to cook all night while you sleep! Zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Wakey, wakey... smell that goodness simmering throughout your home as you wake in the morning... Mmmmmmm!!!!
You are ready to strain the broth out next.
And finally... drink the warm goodness for a nutritious breakfast.
Bottle what is left into glass mason jars and save for soup the next week. Not only is bone broth delicious, but your gut will thank you! 鉂わ笍
Enjoy! Let me know what recipes you love using bone broth in.
