"Phillip.. Phillip.. Wake up..."
It took me a few uncertain seconds to register the words, or what they meant. I wasn't even sure where the sound came from. I just know that they did. And soon enough, they registered...
I wasn't even sure why I was asleep, or when exactly it was that I had gone to sleep. But the sound of my name coming from a voice so familiar, and asking me to wake up, was enough to distract my train of thought for a few more seconds...
And then I heard the same voice again...
"Phillip... Please wake up..."
I blinked...

And there she was... My beloved...
She was clad in her onion green gown, the one with the yellow coloured petals on them. It was my favourite dress of hers.
Her hair was combed, and twisted into one single long loop. It was the colour of brownish gold, and it shone as it echoed the movement of her head...
"My dear Phillip..."
Her voice was like the chorus of seven angels, like the opera of a flock of nightingales, sounding in unison... It was glorious...
"My dear Beatrice..."
She smiled at my response, and those dimples that I would forever love appeared on the sides of her face...
At the back of my mind I felt a nudge, almost physical, and I was distracted momentarily. It felt real, but at the same time it also felt as if the feeling was only a thought.
But then her smile, Beatrice's smile, it was in front of me. And I forgot the distraction soon enough...
"I have waited so long for you my Phillip..."
She was beautiful... no, she was beyond beautiful... and I wanted nothing than to hold her in my hands...
"I have also waited long for you my Beatrice..."
I moved closer to her, and she stretched her arms in expectation...
"I have waited for you Beatrice, through years and years..."
It was only but a few steps now between us...
I felt the nudge again, and this time it came with a voice, a familiar voice. I didn't know what to make of it - if it was a song, or if it was simply conversation - But I knew that voice, I knew that voice...
"Come to me Phillip, you are almost here now..."
Beatrice's voice broke my distraction again...
"We don't have to wait no more Philip..."
She was beautiful, my Beatrice... She was... And there was nowhere else I would rather be... nowhere but... but... but...
The voice came again, pausing my thoughts.. This time it was clear...
"Phillip.. Phillip.. Wake up..."
It took me a few uncertain seconds to register the words, or what they meant. I wasn't even sure where the sound came from anymore. I just knew that they did. And soon enough, they registered...
I was asleep...
I wasn't even sure why I was asleep, or when exactly it was that I had gone to sleep. But the sound of my name coming from a voice so familiar, and asking me to wake up, was enough to distract my train of thought for a few more seconds...
And then the voice again...
"Phillip... Please wake up..."
I blinked...
And I blinked again...
And after a few moments of adjusting my eyes to the light, I saw them.. all of them..
My family rejoiced around me, excited that I had opened my eyes... I let them plaster me with kisses and attention...
But deep down, I yearned to close these eyes and see her beauty again... The one person who wasn't here...
My late wife...
Her beauty had always come with a twist...
THE END?
I was torn between writing for the prompt "Heart & Soul" or this one "Beauty with a Twist"...
Eventually I settled for the latter..
I hope you had fun reading.
Cheers!
