A couple of days ago, my wife and I came back from a vacation on an island- a week of heat and lounging in the shade with a cold beer in hand - pure bliss.
For the field we last worked on ten days ago. But I was curious to see what had grown. And today, when the heat let up a bit in the evening, we went to take a look.
Even though itβs been dry, everything is greenβthe plants are thriving! But so are the weeds :(
Just for comparison, this photo is from a previous post a month ago, when we started planting:
In short, Iβd say everything is going according to plan.
A few details:
Two watermelon plantsβno fruit yet, but theyβve grown quite a bit.
Eggplants and tomatoes.
The tomatoes under the roof already have a few green fruits.

CucumbersβIβll pick a few of them today. Yesss!π
The zucchini are still too small to harvest. Probably because of the drought, Iβll have to water them more now.

The bush beans donβt have any pods yet, but theyβre very bushy.
Thereβs still quite a bit of lettuce; Iβll have to give some away because we canβt eat it all :)
The garlic and onions growing next to the lettuce are still small; it looks like they donβt like the soil.
The tall beans have begun climbing the stakes, but Iβll need to weed around themβ¦

The potatoes look fine; they need to hold out for another month. I hope they donβt get hit by any disease or Colorado potato beetles. There arenβt any larvae yet, but they can devour everything in a couple of days if they show up...
It seems to me that there are the most peas right now. They look plump on the outside, but when I opened one, the peas were too small to harvest. Iβll wait another week or so before we harvest them for the first time.
Thanks for reading!
Iβll check in when thereβs something new.
