BATTLE MAGE SECRETS - RULESET: Back to Basics Weekly Challenge!
Back to Basics!
RULESET: Back to Basics
Description: Monsters lose all abilities.
Note: Summoner effects are still active (IE: Yodin Zaku).
With Back to Basics, my monsters are restricted to their core card stats: Attacking Power, Speed, Armor, and Health Points. No longer could I rely on my maxed out monsters with their abilities to give me an edge. I focus on building a well-balanced team that could hold its own against any opponent.
The Strategy
Here is my winning strategy for the tricky triple ruleset of Back to Basics, Earthquake, and Explosive Weaponry. With this combination of rulesets, I knew I needed a strategy that could withstand heavy attacks while also dishing out serious damage to my opponent.
My approach was to use three meat shields upfront to absorb the initial onslaught from my opponent's monsters. For my first two meat shields, I went with the small but sturdy Mycelic Morphoid and Chaos Agent. These cards have relatively low health but make up for it with their tiny mana stats. I positioned them in the first and second spots to take the brunt of any incoming attacks.
In third position I placed the Hill Giant. With high health stats, this card can take a serious beating and still stay standing.
For my damage-dealing strategy, I went with a combination of high-speed magic attacks and support from a Khmer Princess. My primary magic damage dealer was Regal Peryton, a fast and powerful card that can dish out serious damage. I also included Khmer Princess to provide additional magic damage.
With this combination of cards, I was able to withstand my opponent's attacks while dishing out some serious damage of my own. The meat shields held up well against explosive ranged attacks, while the high-speed magic attacks of Regal Peryton quickly took out my opponent's key monsters.
This Back to Basics, Earthquake, and Explosive weaponry ruleset combination can be challenging, but I still was able to come up with a winning team.
The Summoner
OBSIDIAN is Rare Earth +1 magic summoner that provides increased magic damage to all monsters.
1st Slot - Meat Shield
Mycelic Morphoid is a one mana monster to serve as a meat shield and absorb damage
2nd Slot - Another Meat Shield
Chaos agent is one of my favorite monsters as it is only one mana neutral monster with phase, backfire and evasive abilities, unfortunately in this ruleset it is simply a secondary meat shield.
3rd Slot - Tank
Hill giant is an 3 mana 8 health primary tank designed to take lots of damage.
4th Slot - High Speed Major Magic Damage Dealer Monster
Regal Peryton is a 3+1 magic damage flying monster with a speed of seven. Unfortunately in back to basics flying ability is of no use for the Earthquake ruleset, but the speed, damage and relatively high health of eight is still really good.
5th Slot - Magic Damage Monster
Khmer Princess is a great two mana monster. Unfortunately I don't own it, so had to use a starter card.
THE BATTLE
In this battle we have Back to Basics ruleset as well as Earthquake ruleset and Explosive Weaponry ruleset. Our opponent chose to go with mostly ranged team.
After the first round we were able to take out three monsters on the opponent team while loosing only two monsters on our team. The opponent has only one damage dealing monster left with two ranged damage. This looks like a win as we still have a five health tank left as well as a 7 health monster in the second position.
And then an Earthquake rule hits taking out our backline monster and reducing health of all monsters by 2:
Now it is up to Regal Peryton with his seven speed to strike first and take out the rest of opponent's team for a win:
And just like that the battle is over!
