Hail to the Hive!
Perhaps you've heard the phrase 'You can't see the wood for the trees'. Well how about 'You can't see the canal for the leaves' or the path for that matter. It really is difficult to see where the tow parh ends and the canal begins such is the huge amount of fallen leaves. It does mean you need to really pay attention to what and where you are going.
Now as pretty as it seems, and it is very pretty, it does present certain problems. Apart from the obvious danger of maybe falling in the canal (which thankfully I have not done yet and am hoping that if I do it is at least on a warm day). You also need to pay attention while steering the boat as it is very easy to run into obstacles that are easily camouflaged by a blanket of leaves and srounded by more floating leaves.
The constant leaf fall causes havoc with the propeller and I have to regularly blast the prop into reverse to blow the build up from the blades as we lose propulsion, which is annoying when you are pretty much only chugging along at 3mph to start with. Let's not forget I have a new engine also and want to make use of it. Warp speed maybe not but gimme 3mph at least!
The leaves are also constantly covering the roof and deck and are managing to find their way into the engine room. All of this is a constant nuisance but having said that.....
